Hi guys, do you know anything about the new IBJJF regulations regarding kimonos during competitions, apparently only those made of thick woven fabric will be allowed !?

IBJJF regulations regarding Gi are simple and following a simple guidance:
If You are from Brasil and/or pay enough bribe to the right people, Your Gi is allowed. :-)

[To be sure not becoming a victim of criminal prosecution:
....just kidding!]

This is not entirely accurate. You don't have to be from Brazil, you just have to look, act, sound, or pretend to be Brazilian. And it may also be more accurate to say that if you're not Brazilian they will go out of their way to find something illegal.

Adding to what is in the link which Robert posted we now know that they will require both the trousers and the jacket to have a manufacturer's label showing GSM of the fabric:

So now IBJJF will be in the gi business. They'll produce a ridiculously lightweight gi that would not be acceptable if it was any other brand, but since they put a label on it saying it's legal they will accept it.

FWIW, my wife competed about a month or so ago, under the new uniform changes, and they did not check the GSM.

Recently in Japan one of our purple belts brought TWO gis for a JBJJF competition and both were refused... one because of the shade of blue was too purple-ish for their taste, the other for some other silly reason. It makes no sense at all for hobby-level competitions. Slightly stricter for worlds or what-not, why not... but it's just silly, or a ill-thought money grab attempt

Now situation is very simillar to Judo Gis. There we have strict rules, if you want to compete you need to have not only Gi in right size but also with IJF Logo approved on GI and belt.

belts, reminds me of two other recent anecdotes from my teammates going to compete in JBJJF (Japanese branch of IBJJF) comps

- one belt was refused because the embroidery of his name and our school name was reaching too close to the knot.
- one belt was refused because it was too frayed

in what world would that affect anything grappling related?

"I tried to grab his belt, but my fingers slipped on the embroidery!"
"the texture is so different from what I train on, I just couldn't do my usual belt-worm guard!"
...I just can't see the logic, rules for the sake of rules

It all makes a lot more sense if you accept the fact that it doesn't have to make sense to be the IBJJF way. A story I've shared here before is about a lady that made it through gi inspection then had several matches in the same gi. Then the referee on her mat changed and the new ref determined that her gi was illegal.
