Hi,

I'm just curious, i was listening to Eddie Bravo interview and he says that 10th planet bjj represent like 200 affiliate worldwide. It's pretty impressive, he grow really much, few years ago it was more about 50 or something.

So my question is, is Gracie Barra still the number 1 in term of affiliate gyms number in the world ? Or did another one take the spot ?

Did you have an idea of numbers ?

Was it that interview where he said his body is a mess and that he can’t roll anymore now in his mid 50s??

Google AI says, Gracie Barra still is the biggest with over 800 affiliates….

According to what I can find with a search looks like 10th planet is tied for 3rd in the top 5 affiliates.
Gracie Barra 800+
Alliance Jiu-Jitsu ~300–400
CheckMat ~200–300
10th Planet 200+
Atos ~150–200
Carlson Gracie Team ~150+

I guess it’s just the intensity and volume over a long period of time….

I have seen a similar video of Chris Haueter, who said in his 40 he rolled and trained like he was only 25 years old and afterwards couldn’t move and had to ice his body. That’s why he changed his approach and when he was in his fifties trained like he would have been 60 (or something similar like that)….

I am all about longevity and sustainability the longer I train and the older I get, too……

Sorry for off topic, Benoit

BJJ Globetrotters is up there in the GB numbers, however, they're unique, as they are decentralized and you can be a "dual-affiliated" gym, which probably wouldn't fly for the other larger, corporate affiliations.

Impressive numbers....

I was also thinking about Nova Uniao, there are between 195 and 200 affiliates too.

And on the 10th planet website i count more like 165 than 200 as Eddie says....

Another question in mind, how did those super structures to stay attractive, in a world of bjj where it's hard to keep people in the gym when they start thinking about opening their own....

Are those the numbers in their entire association? Or just their direct affiliates?

Well, if you came up in one of those gyms and you want to start your own, you would probably open another gym in that affiliation as the head coach of that franchise location. Then there would be 201 10th planets.

The numbers are pulled directly thru any public source, I do not know how filtered down it is or how often it was updated. Like the Gracie Barra, Alliance, and 10th Planet maintain affiliate maps or directories. There are also many that have a dual affiliation.

if you read the process of the 10Th Planet it isnt as simple as one might think. They have a full process including a "hotbox", and their words not mine!

Depending on how you define an "affiliation", BJJ Globetrotters could be by far the biggest with 1,183 academies.
Wow! Seriously?! Had no idea how big globetrotters became. Well done!

It can be sees as affiliation as well, but it is different in the way that globetrotters isn't there to graduate people or to follow a curriculum who's mainly the same in each gym.
But for sure it's actualy thr biggest bjj organisation in the world if those numbers are correct
