Hi guys,

Did anyone ear about the actual conflict between the CFJJB ( confédération française de jiujitsu brésilien) and the french judo federation ?

In short, the judo federation tell that the gouvernment gives her the rights on judo, jujutsu and kendo, so they says that they gonna lead the bjj from now because they didn't comes to an accord with the cfjjb.
The cfjjb represent actualy between 35.000 and 40.000 members in France. So, the judo want to take control of it....
The main problem, who gonna concern us, is that in France if you get the judo Black Belt you can teach jujutsu as a Black belt, and they want to do the same with bjj.

The cfjjb is trying to keep the right for their tweeny years of work but in France the administration can be really absurd and it may be the beginning of hundred of people pretending to be bjj Black Belt on because they receive "equivalence"

The case is pretty serious and a huge mobilisation is on the way, i don't know if it can help but it's seems important to me to talk about this robbery.

I read about this earlier today. I guess I'm not really sure what sort of real power this governing body has. If I were to want to open a BJJ, or even a Judo or Kendo school in France, would I not be able to do that unless this organization, or any organization for that matter, gives me the OK? Do all martial artists have to be registered under this organization in order to teach?

I guess I'm not sure how this is any different than the IBJJF, for example, claiming that anybody who isn't a registered BB in their organization, isn't a real black belt irl. Nobody really seems to care enough for it to matter. Or, the Rio Federation saying that anybody who isn't a BB shouldn't be teaching. That happened too, and it seems to have zero impact on anything.

I'm not french, so i don't know all the details but first, it would be harder to find a place to open your gym if you're not recognize by their organisation.
Second You can't be paid if you didn't have a state diploma...., they lock the system so they can control people.
It seems crazy, but France work like that, that's why jiujitsu praticioners are afraid of. Because in the beginning of bjj in France, judo federation did the maximum to stop the grow, for bjj, mma as well, but now that they are dozens, judo change his mind and want to absorb them mainly because affiliations numbers in judo are historicly low for the last decade, as all the traditionals martial arts.

The problem in France is that you need a state diploma to teach sports (any sport) and that the government delegates the power to certify to sports federations.

it means that judo federation will have those power

…and I always thought that kind of bullshit-behaviour on association matters is a weirdo-speciality of us germans because of our subservient to authority- mentality.🫣
Best solution is maybe reality:
the good old dojo-visits at the new gyms with their officially recognized BB.
Reality will show what really works.
People will take notice and do their choice what kind of „JJ“ they want to learn.

I always thought that Judo and BJJ are already together in France?
Since the beginning, there was two group, one of them was leaded by Christian Derval(r.i.p.) who was close with the judo federation and the other one was leaded David Giorsetti, the actual president of Cfjjb.

The control of the French federation is pretty wild, I experienced it myself even on a tiny French island in the Caribbean it was basically impossible for me to run a small MMA class/workout because it could give too many problems with rules, regulations, insurance, federation, judo vs. BJJ etc etc. It was literally just me and a few guys who want to put on gloves for training now and then. On an island 9000 km from France.

France is on a roll, first the judo federation’s trying to swipe BJJ like it’s a Renaissance artifact and now Louvre gets hit with a jewel heist in under seven minutes. The CFJJB built a legit community with 35,000+ members, and now judo wants to claim “equivalence” like they found a black belt in a display case. If this keeps up, we’ll need museum-grade security just to protect our rank integrity, or maybe France Judo already has that? Teaching BJJ because you have a judo belt? That’s like curating the Mona Lisa because you once painted a fence.

Well let’s see if they try to verify their new BJJ black belts of Beltchecker first 😂

If that happens, I will have to change my graduation instantly by counting years in rank beginning with my Judo BB back in 1992.🤣
…what means a 7th degree and additionaly a real chance to become a coral belt in this life.🤔

I would have figured with France’s domination in TKD and Judo that they would want the same for BJJ.

Hopefully they realize “grandfathering” people to black belt won’t produce French world champions!

I don't know if it's the same in France, but a lot of Judoka in Germany insist that judo and BJJ are the same thing with no differences (bear in mind the overwhelming majority of these Judoka are training according to the IOC Judo rules) so they may think they already know everything.
