Patenting grappling or H2H moves, is bad, and should be utterly resisted, and rejected.

Patent trolling is a thing.
This is absurd, in the grappling space,
As there are Walls in Egypt thousands of years old,
that show wrestlers engaged in our arts,
There are vases, that show our techniques,
Made by long dead Greeks.
The India people, the Chinese people,
The people around the Tigris-Euphrates,
Were surely doing the same moves, that we do.
There is nothing new under the Sun,
Especially when it comes to Grappling.
Everything cycles,
and the difference between Orthodoxy,
and innovation,
or esqui-jitsu,
is just Generational blindness, in memory.
I have not verified (fact checked) this story, but Patent trolling, in other domains, is a thing, and a vile form of rent seeking:

It's the Gracies. Anything for a buck. This is like trying to patent the way you brush on paint.

Yeah, that’s old news.
This topic has been discussed in the LEO and DT/arrest and control tactics instructor community for a while…
There was the fear if the guys patented certain moves and techniques and you haven’t been instructed or licensed by Safewrap instructors, you might have been sued for using them or something like that.
I haven’t followed the discussion since then, but I know highly respected and knowledgeable experts (police offers/ DT instructors who are also BJJ Blackbelts), discussed that a lot online and in podcasts: for example Chad Lyman (c4c/ Police Jiu Jitsu), Ari Knazan (invictus ), Jay Wadsworth (EFC)…
In my world you can’t patent certain moves (that’s what Rener and co. wrote on their homepage that it’s not about patenting moves: see picture and link).
Of course they want earn money and they can license their training system and take fees for the training courses, but in my world they can’t sue other peeps, who use 2 on 1 takedowns, a kind of giftwrap and straight jacket control for upper body and leg weave control for lower body but haven’t been certified by them.
