I personally feel like we might be heading towards too many using the forum to make posts asking for verification votes. I’m not saying it will, but if it becomes a trend, I’m afraid this could end up being seen as spam and kill the forum experience for the users. It makes way more sense for the longevity of the site to encourage people to invite friends and training partners to grow the user base instead of trying to get a single verification from strangers.

What is your opinion? Should I remove them? Ban them? Move them somewhere else? Make a separate beggars forum? :D

I have an idea on what I will chose to do but want to hear your opinions too.

Let the chaos unfold naturally as it will. With minimal interference. All part of the experiment.
Lol! Throw them to the mob

Folks need to relax and not beg. It’s not easy to convince people you are real and legit if they don’t know you. The best you can do is put the evidence out there and let things flow.

I think begging via forums is still better than sending random Friend requests in hopes of getting voted.

But in my opinion, the "Introduce yourself" thread should be the place to encourage people to take a look at one's profile, not posting a new thread with the only content being "verify me!". Post a cool story on why you started or just a little bit of personal history, and I'm likely to take a look. (Not that my 20 points are very valuable though. :D)

This. My idea would be to block any thread "I beg you to verify me", closing it with this comment.

I agree with Tatu. It seems like introducing yourself and providing some background may help you connect with people you don't know more than just asking to be verified. I feel that having a separate forum for those simply asking for verification is also a good idea.

This.. I get messages from people and friend requests for the same reason. It's annoying by I check their profile and if legit I will cast a vote.
These are the same folks that once verified vanish anyway.

Heres a crazy idea, if you just let the coach verify you then it should be a non-issue. Yah I'm one of those that posted please verify me. No shame in it. You left it open to that. Further, not knowing anyone on here who is able to give points makes it really difficult for this verification process to work for those of us out ahead of our gym mates. I see that there are folks listed under the "may know" section simply because we are under a certain gym affiliation. Gym affiliations are all over and people may never get to interact due to physical location. Not all of us are globe trotting, unfortunately. I love the idea of this website, just have difference of ideas on how vetting should be handled. Right now the vetting process feels more like a who's who and feels more like high school popularity contest process than something that can be easily handled with coaches verification. I'd be hard pressed to think being verified by my coach or his coach would be an issue given their names. I've talked to my coach about getting on here as well and he's not even interested given the current verification method. Makes it more difficult to get people on board when there isn't even excitement from your circle of gym mates for this. Hence if I can get verified and then help others in my circle, I don't mind doing the dirty work. I do like Tatu's ideas of having an "Introduce Section". That may be a good way to go with this.

"Just letting the coach verify you", yes that's called IBJJF and people are most free to use them for verification instead if they like :)

No shame in asking, of course not, I just opened the debate if people think this is something we should address to avoid the forum maybe being flooded with vote requests in the near future :)

Ok I changed the little rules box a bit and added a link to the "Introduce yourself" topic :) I think this is a good way of doing it, thanks for all of your input!

Great idea about the 'introduce yourself' thread. I'll make an effort to read that thread for users with properly filled-out profiles and contribute to the vetting (once mine is done, of course).

I think it tells something about your character quite a bit, if you beg for votes. It is kind of disrespetful for the whole idea in my opinion. People now a days just cant wait! It is obvious you need votes if your profile is pending. That is clear for every single verified folks here. I believe the best way to get votes is being active, taking part in converstations and that way be able to open who you are for other people. Then, when you end up sharing your thoughts and maybe prove your intelligence, knowledge, history or exsperience of jiu jitsu, you will start to get votes from people who never heard of you. This is fun like it is. Enjoy the ride and make a good show!

Yes, completely agree! As I stated in another forum, I believe those that contribute to the forums are more likely going to be the ones that help this site moving forward.

Wasn't begging, simply asked given the tools provided. Don't ask, you'll never know. And I'll have to disagree with you on it "tells something about your character quite a bit".

Begging was perhaps also the wrong word to use for this topic; should’ve been “asked”. I blame it on English not being my first language :D

My intension was not Pointing at you ot anybody else, not at all. I dont know you or have not read your posts. I simply commented this threads title. Asking is different than begging, that is correct and you and who ever have right to try to get needed votes for verification. That is part of the whole point of this exsperiment.

Quick tangential question: when you go up a belt do your verification points reset? I feel like they should in a way, otherwise you could end up with thousands of points as a blue belt, then use them for any future 'promotions'.

Not that I was thinking of promoting myself once I got enough juice, of course ;)

Yes, if you change the promotion history or add a new belt, the points reset, and everybody who has voted for you before will get a notification. So they are likely to check out your new promotion documentation once they get to the site, and re-confirm their verification if everything looks legit still.

Also your votes for others will temporarily vanish when you lose verification, but they will be back (with a bigger point count!) once your new rank gets verified.

It's almost like somebody has thought out how this system should work....

Nope..not even a notification. I just messaged the webmaster. No big deal. I probably did not vote for them fast enough or made a comment in the forum that got them upset. I really don't know.
