I fractured my elbow at the beginning of August while training. I’m itching to get back in the mats. It’s been way too long. I can absolutely feel a difference in my regular life, outside of jiu jitsu. The mats is where I get my stress relief and has been for the past 14years. A couple more weeks until I’m cleared by Dr. debating to go back sooner, but not completely healed. I’m pretty sure I’ve moved up in weight classes since then as well. Lol

Kurt Osiander would say to tuck the arm into your belt and go train. I believe his quote was "If you want to have a good guard roll with no arms".

I used this method when coming back from my hand injury, and it is a great suggestion! Isolate that arm, keep it out of harm's way, maybe even inside the jacket!

I used a similar method while recovering from a broken wrist and limited myself to holding a tennis ball in my injured hand. So I couldn’t grab and couldn’t use the hand

I understand how you feel...I've been off the mats since the end of July. Broke and dislocated my finger and required surgery and hardware placed. It's been extremely challenging not being able to train. Hoping I feel confident enough to return and am cleared to train in the next couple of months. I love the tennis ball idea that Mirco mentioned, I've tossed the idea around for when I return!

Hope you heal up and get back to training soon!!

I have reached an age that I no longer get injured. I just add more things to the list of permanent minor disabilities.

hope you can get back into it soon. I had 2 years off for my injury and it really sucked. What kept me sane was creating BJJ things, e.g. curricula, methods of self assessment and so on, so at least I could remain engaged in some form even if physically I couldn't. Really hope you are cleared soon!

That’s hard. I think all of us had or will have some kind of injury during our journey. Take advantages of that, train more your legs, or do some cardio. Always see things at least in a neutral perspective.

Train around your injustices as much as you can. I was able too after shoulder replacement surgery.
