No it makes good sense that any changes to your name needs to be reverified. The system can not distinguish between if you add an initial, correct a spelling error or enter a fake name.

You have not lost any votes, they're not affected by a name change (as also mentioned in the warning box you get when you change your name). You have just lost your verification because your profile is awaiting your "new" name to be confirmed by the moderators. Just go to the name verification page, upload something with your name on and it'll take anything from a few minutes to an hour or so to get you back up and running.

Ok. The things I updated in the first place already had my name with my middle intitial on them such as my drivers license and IBJJf Card. Its just when I filled out my profile for Belt checker that I did not include the middle Intial. So I quess I will upload the same documents that I did the first time. I will try that.

You had to wait for your ID to be re-verified :)
