Hello to everyone from out of Madrid, during the fifth week of total lock down. So I was wondering how did it go for you so far? To be honest, if I just count out BJJ, which I am obviously missing badly, things are not that bad health wise for me. I am eating better, means less and more consciously, having less beer definitely too and a good cap of sleep everyday...I even might be better in form than before the quarantine;). How do you feel about this? Any better now or much worse?

Well, I've lost a few pounds. But, only because the restaurants are closed and cooking is such work. ;)
Imagine where I could be if they kept the restaurants closed but open the gym!

I don't think I've lost weight but I haven't gained any either so that's positive... I may have to bathe in WD40 before returning to training though, I'm going to be rusty!

My girlfriend just mentioned that our favorite Italian restaurant round the corner reopened with delivery service. I might have to rethink what I wrote hahaha

Yeah, true maybe a bit rusty concerning the feeling of live sparring. I am working a lot on visualization right now, watching matches try to put myself in to the fighters place and later from there see what he does (of cause mostly way more skilled stuff that I would do haha) to figure out, why this did work and then looking up videos with the techniques used: I am feeling this way you stay at least mentally on the mats and whats getting rusty is reaction time and timing , sure. But visualization makrs you mind fokus and feeling certain movements prepare to later use them. And you can drill parts of techniques later on aswell solodrilling. But of cause this all requires a bit of time and I am lucky to have at least much of it right now hahah.

I gained about a pound per week. Now made it a bit more conscious and stopped gaining, hoping to reverse.

Obviously I kept my home exercising habits the same as before the lockdown - minimal :D And that's a huge negative.

Hahaha, I was lucky that my body simply calls for movement as I am normally constantly moving through the city from client to client during lock down I miss moving my feet a lot and then my girlfriend tells me: "don´t you wanna hit the bike (gor a home trainer) a bit and shut up?" hahah that helps

I'm pretty much locked into the apartment until 5 every day with kids when my wife returns from work and then I want to spend time with her and not leave just her with kids to go out to a run or smth...

So it's either work out in apartment (which is tedious and hard with kids around) or go fur runs on weekends etc...

Yeah, I understand. All my friends and team colleagues with kids are telling me too, that it is quite hard to find time already in normal circumstances and during lock down, having your kids around you all day on the one hand you need/want to plan actual time together and on the other hand you have to work. So it is weirdisn't it?: You are physically at home, but in the same time not really, as you are working,
Soon it will be over I hope ! Wish you the best Jorgen! How is the situation in Estonia by the way? Read, you are managing the crises there quite ok?

Fingers crossed not too bad. We might get some alleviations in 2 weeks or so. I don't think proper training will resume though until june maybe?

Well, I have managed to do my home workouts (just about) twice a week, though it slips to maybe one and a half when I'm in a low mood (my mental health does bounce up and down a bit, but mostly just means I've have 10-14 days of hyper running around and being super productive, then 5 to 10 days of feeling unable to do anything and mostly just watch Netflix ;) ). But yeah, eating just as crap as always, not helped by DELICIOUS EASTER EGGS! Soooo cheap! :D

I don't spar all that much anyway, as I'm lazy and also super picky about who I roll with. So I'm not that bothered about not rolling at the moment, as I at least still get to dig into technique because I'm still teaching online classes. That's the part I prefer anyway. Most importantly, loads of DnD, generally 5 or 6 times a week. :P

Do you have any major injuries or something? I couldn't imagine Jiu Jitsu without sparring being the all dominating part of training

Nah, mostly I'm just lazy and small, got bored of big people squashing and injuring me, so now I only roll with people no more than 15kg heavier who aren't strangers . I also don't like it when people are aggressive. As a lazy pacifist who doesn't like being touched (and most of the time would much rather be playing DnD), it often confuses me how I ended up teaching BJJ for a living. :P

Obviously sparring is totally central to BJJ, so I make sure I do it regularly, it's a big part of every class. But I do sometimes have to force myself to join in (also a result of most of my students being white belts and/or bigger than me, so not so fun to roll with). I've got a few senior people close enough to my size that ARE fun to roll with, but they often aren't there at the same time as me, unfortunately.

E.g., this female blue belt slightly smaller than me is super fun to roll with, but she's had an ongoing thing with her nose that has kept her off the mats (unrelated to training). The purple belt who helped found the club is great too (I can guarantee a really interesting, super technical roll whenever I spar him) and almost exactly my size...but he has loads of family commitments. :(

In case anybody is wondering, some rare sightings of me sparring ;) - https://www.instagram.com[...]lideyspar/

How a weakling like Can ended up doing a full contact sport is indeed a mystery.

No touch dim mak, Kung fu larping, Yellow bamboo, heck even Systema are more suitable to his constitution.

Ha ha ha - I was waiting for that! :P

But you're absolutely right, it's a miracle I ended up a BJJ brown belt, rather than a Yellow Bamboo pink polka dot belt or whatever. Having said that, as much as I don't like fighting, I hate woo woo even more, so that helps. Started off in kung fu, which coooould have been risky, but actually ended up being fairly solid. After I got knocked out twice in one spar and fucked up my ankle, I stepped back from it a bit. They sparred too hard for my liking, in hindsight. ;)

I was mostly in it for the jumpy spinny kicks, because I wanted to be like Yuen Biao. :D
