I dont feel comfortable giving my credit card(yes, its only $2, but paying ANYTHING to "verify" my ranking seems off) or home documents. Is there another way to verify? If not, I guess Ill stay an "unverified" second degree black belt, even though I own my school, have three black belts of my own, have ranking under a reputable association and have been doing BJJ since the 90s.....

I think there are other ways, no need to be bitter. I hope you understand why the hoops to jump through to confirm identity - the system would fall apart if it'd be too easy to pretend to be someone who you're not.

You can upload a utility bill, IBJJF membership card or anything else with your name on.
How about that?

Verification if your name is to ensure you are who you say you are. It has nothing to do with the legitimacy of your rank.
Do you have any other suggestions how we could be sure you have used your real name on your profile and it's not someone impersonating you? :)

I did not use a credit card either. If you have a ID badge or card with your name and picture on it (other then your passport or drivers license) use that. I used my IBJJF membership card.

Did not use the credit card either. The instructions on registering are very helpful. Also refer to the FAQ section as it covers everything.

Wait what, you mean that you need to actually READ some instructions?!?! I'm out.

Yes there is another way. Just upload anything with your name on it. IBJJF card, membership card to your local fishing club, library card. etc. etc. There is no requirement to pay anything.

I just paid the $2. Haven't had my identity stolen yet, no scams or hidden payments. It's like they just wanted to make sure I was me.
Although using the old credit card didn't help in getting the votes required to verify my rank.
I have it on good authority it's actually impossible to get your rank verified. There are whole forum topics about it.

Its not about paying $2, its about using my credit card on a site that I have no idea about its security protocol. That goes for other documents too.

You can use your IBJJF membership card if you have one. You won't be giving much away about your personal security if you do as it just has your name on it with your photo. I think there is quite a lot of flexibility with this issue. They particularly request that you don't send anything sensitive like your passport or drivers licence.
