What’s incredibly sad is that if he’s lying about this...something as silly as martial arts...chances are pretty good he’s lying about a few other things in his life...sad.
I think ‘unfortunate’ is more accurate. The “why” is very important and ridiculing him is unproductive. He is potentially falsifying something he highly respects, but does not have the ability or courage to earn. It should make us proud that something we have earned Through mental and physical sacrifice is worthy enough for someone to sacrifice their integrity for. At the same time, we should not take our subjective ranks too seriously, reach out to this guy, and offer him access to the better path. The belt does not make the person.

The mats dont lie as we all know. Unfortunately people do. I'd would never be caught dead being fraudulent about my belt in bjj. This for me is a lifestyle and I'll be doing it for the rest of my life.

I mean it’s 2020 and it still blows my mind that people do this. I’ve seen people leave my gym as a blue belt and in one year get promoted to higher belts from another gym lol. But that person still gets submitted by white belts. It’s crazy that some people think they can do this. There is no short cuts, it’s a marathon not a sprint.

Learn for knowledge and life. Not for degrees, belts, pins or other external promotions. You don´t get any more knowledge with to high degrees. You have the knowledge you have. Like in everything else in life.
