I think the new rules regarding kis profiles are great in many ways. However It does seem like it will be hard to verify kids unless they have a brown belt or higher in their academy that's already verified that can do so.

Only need 50 points and many users verify strangers with well documented profiles. It’ll be a non-issue, even if they don’t have a brown or black belt instructor here.

That's true, I guess I will see how long it takes.

All of my points are from people whom I only know online / through Beltchecker. My instructor is a brown belt with an aversion to technology and I haven't been able to persuade anyone else from my small academy to join. (We have maybe 4 purple belts and 20 blue belts.)

I expect my son will probably get his grey/white belt in January or February. I'll likely poke someone who has verified me and see if they'd be willing to verify him, so yeah, kids with parents who have profiles here shouldn't have a hard time getting verified.

If a kid really is alone on here, and has no one from their academy to help, they can probably reach out on social media. A lot of us put our Facebook and Instas in our profiles.

Did you draw the line at under 18? I guess that's the only way to go for clarity...
I'd be fine with 15+ having full privileges myself.

Old enough to have a blue belt, old enough to verify.

Do you mean 16 then? At least for IBJJF it's 16+ for blue/purple (Article 2 of the General System for Graduation)

I thought it was in the year they turn 16? So theoretically, a 15yo could have one if they're turning 16 later that year.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I was a little hesitant to make my son a profile here because I've gotten my share of creepy messages on Reddit and social media for disclosing my gender.

I also began using the Internet in the late 90s when I was 16 and oh boy, it did not take long for the creepy shit to start rolling in. It did not matter that I was underage.

I would hope creepy messages wouldn't be a problem on a site like Beltchecker where people can't post anonymously and are forced to use their real names, but you never know. Criminals are seldom logical people and the ID verification here isn't Fort Knox.

Parents should not want their kids getting messaged on here. That is all.

I agree and messages are blocked now :) There are still some white belt kids profiles out there that doesn't have a birthdate registered. Moderators will go through everyone to find and lock them, I coded that functionality yesterday.

Next step will probably be to implement a parental approval functionality, so that profiles under x years can only exist when approved by an ID verified parent/guardian's profile. Will take a little work but we'll get there one day :)

I saw and thank you! I'm just pointing out that this parent who is arguing with you about this on Facebook is not thinking of the safety issue here.

The planned changes sound good to me.

Christian, They found out your secret
I'm pretty sure he's actually one of those aliens from Men in Black.
