Thoughts? Go.
I think it's great to rep your academy during competition and seminars, but I don't think it should be necessary for normal training.

None taken. I find it helpful to be reminded of what I need to work on (which is a lot of things). It's interesting that a uniform can potentially communicate a certain style of jiu jitsu or potential knowledge gaps.
It really is. If I'm competing against a 10P guy, I assume they're competent in leg locks and try to stay away from them. But if they're from Gracie Barra, I'll feel completely comfortable attacking legs, but I still need to be careful since their fundamentals are so sound.

Yeah, I trained at a Gracie Barra for the majority of my jiu-jitsu journey and I was never a fan of the required GB gis, which were pretty expensive.
i train at GB but my head instructor isn’t big on the mandatory gi and rashguards

I train at a GB because it's 5 minutes from my house and I like the instructor. I completely hate the uniforms. They're fine quality-wise, but GB wear's selection is IMO extremely limited. When I started in August '19, they literally sold zero women's tech wear. They just sold men's stuff and labeled it 'unisex.' This has gotten better since but there's still a lot of room for improvement. Then there's the sizing. GB seems to believe all women are 5'6' or less. I'm 6'0' 162 lbs with freakishly long arms and legs and they don't make gis in L sizes. I normally wear women's L sizes in rash guards and spats and t-shirts. With GB I buy the XL stuff and it barely fits. (My 5'1' 125-lb teammate wears their M sizes. It's ridiculous.) I just think that if you're going to preach 'jiu-jitsu for everyone' and require your students to wear your uniforms, you should, y'know... Make uniforms that fit them. That is all.
preach on. i can’t fit any of their gear which is why nobody questions me

I don't have much to add to this except for one GI related story.

A while ago. I think I was a new brown belt. There was a guy ____ who had just gotten his purple. And one day he came in with one of those camo GIs.

so I started yelling from all the way across the mat. "Where's _____??? I thought I saw him walk in. But I can't see him anywhere! _____! Are you on the mat? I can't see you! "

I was just joking and thought it was kind of funny. But may-be it went a little far. Because he never wore that Camo GI again. Well, to be precise. It's been about 5 years since that day and I've never seen him wear it.

Yeah, I saw your comment about A6Ls in our GB forum!

For the record, a while ago I wrote in to GBWear to complain about the sizing and they said I could buy whatever plain gi (white or royal blue) fits me and order a patch kit from them. You have to write in for the patch kit, it isn't on the GBWear site.

I have two Fenom kimonos in size A2T with GB patch kits sewn on and I'm working on a Kitsune gi in size A1XL. My new patch kit is actually arriving today.

But here's hoping GBWear starts offering more sizes eventually.
