Another issue. Where do we stand on pita? Example. My sabich sandwich (roasted eggplant, boiled egg, tahini, parsley) https://www.instagram.com[...]04ob7jwf7k
I'm a Gyro aficionado.. I will qualify them as "exotic sandwiches" lol

Cachorrinhos.
This time of the year my social gets spammed with memories from Portugal, because I typically go the European Championship every year. (Yeah, fuck you corona!)
Cachorrinhos I guess is technically something between a hotdog and a sandwich... (at least the name refers to a dog I think?). There is just (double) meat and cheese in between bread, that is grilled and then sliced for perfect snack bites.
My favorite place to have these is "Gazela Cachorrinhos da Batalha" in Porto. I believe Anthony Bourdain also visited this tiny snack bar on some show of his.

THIS IS WHY YOU STOOD NO CHANCE AGAINST THE VIKINGS, CAN.
That abomination that Can calls a sandwich is the reason Beserkers existed. One look at that thing and they went into a killing rage! Lol

Another sandwich originated in Porto. Francesinha.
Two slices of bread and all kinds of meat in between: wet-cured ham, linguiça, fresh sausage like chipolata, steak or roast meat. Covered in melted cheese & an egg.
It's all absolutely soaked in a sauce that is typically unique & secret to each establishment, but it has to have BEER in it. Then there are commonly fries around the sandwich swimming in said sauce.
Disgusting but lovely. Just like me.
Damn I miss Portugal!

Meh, I didn't think Turks and Germans had much trouble with vikings, AFAIK. :P
Saying that, perhaps I'm wrong: quick google reveals there was apparently a viking settlement near Istanbul. TIL! :D

The Varangian Guard were serious players in Miklagard back in the day. One of them even left a "Halfdan woz ere" message in the Hagia Sophia.

This also strikes me as a very weird image. I can't imagine vikings as polite tour groups being shown around the city. Then again, they were apparently only being shown around because the tour guides were terrified of getting vikinged, so maybe not that crazy. :D
"According to the experts, Vikings and their Russian branches, called Varangians, came to the region as mercenaries or merchants. As the rulers of Constantinople were afraid that Vikings could conquer the city, Vikings and Varangians were allowed to enter the city in the morning within small groups of a maximum of 35 people and leave the city before sunset."

Can and have made them.. Only now I don't eat meat. Not because of some enlightened vegan bullshit. Only because my cholesterol was so high at one time my Dr said I would live about another year if I kept it up. I cut out all meat except for fish and chicken since. Unless, I'm in Greece, then lamb and a bit of pork are back on the menu!!

Don't you guys eat more open face sandwiches in your neck of the woods. Lol I don't really consider them sandwiches as much as I would call them Danish Sushi Lol
You are a major smart-ass lmao

Exact same ingredients, but different bread today (sourdough rather than bagels). And yeah, I am tempted to put up pics of my daily sandwiches now there's a thread on the topic, but I won't. Probably... :P

It gets worse. My Winter Camp friends may remember my favourite snack, smearing Nutella on slices of ham and then rolling them up. Hamcakes, like pancakes but meatier! :P

I join the thread just to say, at the ripe age of 44 I discovered that I like mustard on my cheese sandwich.
