Have you ever grappled with a "fake" ranked person?

I don't believe I have.
I have of course grappled with experienced people that have just slapped on a BJJ white belt to get in some training, whose skills would've warranted a higher rank. But they have not been 'fake' in the sense that nobody had ever promoted them in BJJ.
I have also rolled with black belts, who kept making mistakes/reactions that I thought even a lazy hungover black belt taking a rest round shouldn't make. (Actually I love a high level 'lazy' game of conserving energy... something I aim for in my future!) But yeah, what do I know, maybe a bad day for them or letting me work more than I wanted to. And I believe these have not been faked ranks either.
Competed against definite sandbaggers, but that doesn't equal exactly fake rank either.

I had a guy ambush a purple belt when I dropped in to train.. He told the guy why don't you roll with the old guy over there he is a newbie.. He then sits there laughing and giving his guy a hard time all through the roll..
Waits until we are done to mention I am a visiting black belt and it was No Gi..
Also I have had a number of guys embellish rank when dropping in and had a couple Black Belts drop in that when I went home I looked them up to verify that they were blacks but i always chalked it up to maybe it was a bad day or that their Gi game was mush better than No Gi

No fake belts that I can think of, but high level wrestlers who start bjj can be really tough. By the time some of them reach blue belt, they often catch upper belts (I’m a case in point)

Sandbagging will always be a thing. IMO, there's no point in getting your panties in a twist about it.
The moment that I feel things are getting to easy or I am not learning as much out of my matches is the moment that I start trying to compete up another level in ranks.
As winning doesn't really = getting better at jiu jitsu.
You need to be able to compete against people who can expose your weaknesses to actually learn something and get better.
The moment I start winning to much or feel like I am not learning as much I am pretty much like screw competing at this rank its a waste of my time.

im at the point where.. if you got a belt rank.. you that belt rank and i can respect it. I dont tend to look into it any more. some people are hobbiest belts and but arent really on the sport side and probably been at it longer than me. I just roll with them at their level sometimes, i dont try to over do it or even try to best them during the scramble. Every once in a while i'll catch someone that will talk crap about how GOOD they are and they won such and such.. then i will turn it up a bit to bring them back down to earth but it very rare that i will have to do this.... BUT when it comes to wrestling.. and someone comes in saying they are D1 all american etc and they act like they are superior to everyone..... I cant let that shit slide... i will put my wrestling against them with my BJJ and usually I destroy them with in matter of mins. but that sthe only time.
