I used to always wear a cup, however as BJJ comps explicitly prohibit I think it makes sense to practice for that. (Good old 'Sometimes you have to consider, if finishing this armbar makes you more of a man or less.') Also I care less nowadays since I already have 3 kids (with whom also the chance of getting kneed in the family jewels while playing is really high).
I havent really competed since 2015. Back then I dont recall an issue of not being allowed to wear a cup. I did for all NAGA's, Grappler's Quests, ect. that I did. Maybe you werent allowed to and I didnt get caught or they changed the rules since I competed. I used to compete a lot too. Also, in MMA it is mandatory and they check you before you before you step in the cage.

Underwear, I had no idea people would wear anything else. Also not shy about taking off my gi pants. I apologize on beforehand to all the Americans I'll shock/offend/intrigue at the Arizona camp in two weeks! :D

Not offended! But out of curiosity, do the women in your gym also strip down to their underwear in public?

I always wear spats and a long sleeve rashguard under my gi. Keeps everything compressed, goes a long way to avoiding ringworm or anything, and I can take my gi on and off at will.

Skirt on the mat had a good blog post about wardrobe malfunctions and such. Some... years ago. Holy sh!t time flies. Every woman starting up in BJJ should check her stuff out: https://skirtonthemat.wor[...]press.com/ Guys too, just to get to understand and consider the female jujiteira struggles.

Training or not, I always wear a pair of slick UnderArmour boxers. Bought 6 pairs a few years ago and they are all still like new. They are like rashguard for my balls and tight enough on my thighs and waist. The fit is awesome. They are like 60 euros for 2, but worth every cent.

I've never even tried using a cup. And after 10 years I don't feel the need to. (Used to the punishment by now.)

A cup doesn't only give an advantage in applying armbars, but when somebody is on your back and presses that rock hard steel cup against your spine

............at least I hope it was a cup

The judo club I train at (well, trained at back in normal times) actually has a unisex changing room and showers. Although that is admittedly unusual, even for Germany.

Today after class, a guy was chatting with me in the parent waiting area when he started removing his gi pants. I guess he forgot he was only wearing underwear under his pants. He realized his mistake and tugged them back up, but not before I saw he's apparently a briefs guy. :-D :-D :-D What do you wear under your gi pants? When I first started I was super-worried about a 'wardrobe malfunction.' I was also super self-conscious about my (male) teammates being able to see the top edge of my underwear when doing certain moves. I would wear actual 93Brand women's boxer short grappling underwear, spats, and shorts under my gi. Then I got pregnant and would wear the 93Brand underwear (slid under the bump) and maternity yoga capris under my gi. I've reached the point of 'fuck it.' I'll wear whatever underwear I want; I don't care who sees them peeking out. I don't wear spats under my gi pants anymore, they're too slick. I usually wear regular athletic leggings (mine are PopFit). They have a bit more friction than spats. If any of our ladies are lurking, I'd love to know how they roll. (In gi pants---literally.)
If you haven't aggressively reached for a pant grip during a back take and accidently exposed another mans ass crack to the rest of class....are you really even training? lol jokes of course. It happens, I'm fairly certain it's happened to myself at some point? I prefer to wear compression under wear, something similar to under armour. Very comfortable and mobile.
