I actually got a reply from them. They said they would get together and discuss things once the pandemic has calmed down. So let's see.
Good news!

It's cool that they've responded. I'm in a similar boat as Can, plus folks at our academy can get sign-off through Jiu-Jitsu Brotherhood, but I still would hate to see a route for being able to compete shut off rather than handled like reasonable adults.

Quick update: IBJJF has doubled down on their decision to ban BJJ Globetrotters. It is what it is, we move on! :)

Honestly the only reason I see to register with the IBJJF is if you want to compete in their tournaments.. Otherwise it is who actually promoted you not some organization who has never seen you..
It is a money thing and what is actually funny about the whole thing if you are not at your level a tournament is the first place you are going to get exposed as the mats don't lie

ok, with that being said.. WHAT could you do to make this right? everyone just needs to have a class under the person who signed for them? SOOO technically if you Video conference before you verfiy to sign for the person that would Technically be valid as being taught by the person that is signing the paper... So you within the actual guidelines...
they want to play games.. Well play on Garth...
Just make it a requirement in order to sign up they do a video conference with the signing instructor, then BOOM.. that person has now had class with the signing instructor.. They cant argue that point anymore because "gracie garage" people been doing this for year and they havent gotten banned...
go get your stuff reinstated homie...

It's not like they check already if people have a relationship with the person who sign their form. From my quick facebook poll, more than 50% of people does not train / know the person who sign for them. It's obviously something else about me / BJJ Globetrotters they have a problem with. I don't know exactly and I'm not sure they know either, tbh.

You absolutely right.. I know a few people that have never met Robson that are part of our organization and hes the one that signs for us. They got it out for you if that the fact... I maybe because your "Team" presence could disrupt the balance of the strong hold groups such as Gracie bara, Atos, etc. so Numbers wise your threatening team titles of the tops teams

It's this site, bruh. Carlos Sr. never asked anybody to verify his belt. It's not the Gracie way.

Yeah, I think their reasoning is fairly obviously nonsense, it's a political and financial decision by the IBJJF. They're a company (which likes to masquerade as a governing body and has successfully fooled a lot of people, unfortunately), so their primary concern is always their bottom line.
Partly they might be getting hassle from big teams who are jealous at the size of BJJ Globetrotters and accompanying comp success, like Shawn said. Then in addition, the IBJJF is probably nervous that Beltchecker provides a solid alternative to their pricey system of rank 'verification' (which is more about profit for the IBJJF, than actually concerned with the integrity of the belt system).
Particularly given that until Beltchecker launched, we didn't hear a peep out of the IBJJF about this allegedly terrible slur to the unimpeachable honour of BJJ that a handful of people getting promoted at camps somehow represents. ;)

Shit, if only someone in the industry was running alternative competitions that globetrotters could enter and those grappling competitions were more frequent, better value for money and had a superior ruleset. They could call it something like Grappling Industries and make the IBJJF even more irrelevant than they already are.

This is great until GI realizes that everybody goes to their tournaments so they jack up the price and they become the new Evil Empire. One huge hurdle that organizations like GI face is that they base their gi tournament ruleset on that of the IBJJF. The IBJJF, as bad as they are, does a lot to address every tiny detail of competition regulation whereas these smaller organizations don't do that because they have the IBJJF to do it for them.
What we really need is a fair, not-for-profit, impartial governing body that determines things like the rule set, gi regulations, rankings, etc. There are some large downsides to going this route, but I think it's the lesser of two evils imho.

I don't really understand where you are coming from to be honest.
GI is guaranteeing 4 matches for Gi and 4 for NoGi, assuming the division fills up so it's a very different offering to a knockout competition. I believe the prices are roughly equal.
I don't really understand how the GI rules have a hurdle since they are now so different and disconnected from the IBJJF. There are no advantages, knee reaping and toe holds are allowed at blue belt level. Not to mention NoGi allows heel hooks for advanced and weigh ins aren't right before the matches or done with a Gi on. I mean Japanese writing is based on Chinese writing from one time but it looks pretty different today!

I think we should just verify/downvote an entire competition ruleset here on beltchecker. Don't like advantages? Downvote. Really diggin' the ban on knee reaps? Verified. Then we can all compete under our collectively-decided-upon ruleset at Globetrotter Worlds.

I'd definitely consider doing e.g. the Copenhagen GI if it'd be the normal world order atm...

This is actually a pretty good idea. A crowd sourced rule set based on this site.

Isn't there already something for everyone? Grappling industries rules are near perfect for me, for those who don't want to wait until purple belt to heel hook there's NAGA. Butt scooters can do sub only. For those who like to pull guard, do a half assed kimura attempt for an advantage and stall to rest of the match then that's what IBJJF is designed for.

I'm developing a new ruleset in NoGi for kids and teens herr in Sweden att the moment.
It's a commission from the Swedish Submission Wrestling Federation because they want a clearer and better ruleset thats easy to teach to youth instead of the current existing ones.
My ruleset is heavily influenced by the FILA/UWW ruleset for grappling, only made simpler (only 1 and 2 points can be award).
I strongly recommend anyone looking to tinker with rules to look att the FILA/UWW One for inspiration. Best One out there so far IMO.
And I've been reffing alot theese past 10 years.

I think this really sums everything thing up in terms of rules. But there is a an aspect this overlooks. People aren't going to IBJJF tournaments because of the rules, it's because of the opponents. We have NAGA,. GI, AJP, etc., but most of those aren't as well visited as the IBJJF tournaments. In my age and weight class, I'm lucky if I've got 3 opponents in most of them. Any IBJJF tournament in the same country will normally be double that.

Yup... If one likes to compete in Masters, basically the big IBJJF tourneys are the only worthwhile ones, where 4+ fight brackets are a reality.

Agree, here it's fine at white and blue, but the divisions get thin at purple.

I'm not sure how he did it with Globetrotters being banned as an academy, but hats off for making it happen.

I think they can still compete under Globetrotters with their current membership. They just won't be able to renew it.

Thank you. So basically its easy enough to gain competitive experience using Globetrotters as an affiliation and individual member and completely avoid the IBJJF.
Maybe its a list we can start in the UK forum?

Oh easily! I’ve hardly scratched the surface really.

There's usually only 2-3 IBJJF comps in the UK each year (London Open x2 and IBJJF British Nationals), so it's easy to avoid their comps, especially at the lower belts.

Yeah, extremely easy to avoid the IBJJF in the UK. I've been running a club since 2014 and I can't remember any of my students going anywhere near an IBJJF comp. I've never had anything to do with them, I don't plan to either.
