It’s actually easier to get out of state licenses and carry in neighboring states like pa or ct.
Well, unfortunately you live in the one of the worst areas for concealed carry reciprocity. The Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit is one of the most recognized carry permits in terms of reciprocity in other states. If you have a VA CHP then 35 other states will honor it when you cross into their state.
Except for nearly every single state ABOVE Virginia. Only Vermont and New Hampshire honor it without restrictions and Maine with restrictions. And then, of course, everything west Nevada. I'm not sure PA and CT have any reciprocity at all. Here's where to check:

With the addition of the Florida ccw license (pretty easy to get) the reciprocity increases to 38 states.
For sure a lot of the north east is really strict on gun ownership and carry. If it weren’t for family. I wouldn’t have minded staying in Virginia (where I did my medical residency). The bjj was awesome (I trained with Leo Dalla) and I liked the area in general

Did you train with Dalla in Woodbridge or in Falls Church? Most people aren't aware of this, but did you know that at one time it the Dalla/Yamasaki Academy. It was Mario Yamasaki and Leo Dalla together. Then Dalla moved back to Brazil and came back years later to open back up on his own.

Woodbridge. No I didn’t know he used to be partners with the Yamasakis. I actually was considering training at the Yamasaki dc location but the location wasn’t great for me.

That's cool. My gym is also in Woodbridge. Anytime you're back this way you are always welcome to stop by

I have been training FMA for 2 years now and mixing it up with some grappling techniques. My style of FMA is Nicklestick Balintanwak Eskrima from Cebu. Learned from a guy in Albuqurque, NM (Guro Chan Rafael) while I lived there. CQB style with a single stick/blade and empty hand. I highly recommend anyone who is looking to learn weaponry to study FMA styles regardless of single or double stick/blade.
Also, there is a association based in Utah called Pekiti Tirsia Tactical Association that trains lots of LEO and foreign military SF. The lead instructor Jared Wihongi has a really great system he has set up via an online training portal that goes over some sick chokes with batons if anyone is interested. Its called TRICOM Training.
