Best Guard types for short legs

Surprised seeing the X-guard recommended by many. I don’t have particularly short legs but I find the X challenging to play against tall people with long legs... they can just widen up their base and in effect my X just dies because it can’t reach their further leg properly & they can start easily stripping off the hooks (I typically have to switch to SLX or something). Works for Marcelo though. :)
Try single-leg X?

Why can't people just admit that flexibility and relative limb length to your opponent are both positive attributes for guard and the more you have of either the easier time you'll have playing a variety of guards and the less you have of either the harder that time is going to be?

Jorgen, can you explain relative limb length?

Jorgen, funny you should say that.
I have the hardest time passing the guards of short legged people.
Lanky folks like myself, no problem, I staple them down and crush.
But those little guys with little butterfly hooks that wiggle their owner out of bad spots, very hard to deal with.

Notice this roll of mine with the mighty Imanari. Unpassible guard.

Imanari has god tier flexibility in his hips.
Brian - I meant the longer the guard players limbs are relative to his opponents.
Meaning yes, Cobrinha and Mendes bros are small dudes but they aren't much shorter than other people in their weight class so their main awesome guardplay is not a "short guy guardplay".

I like to play ‘recover into side control and keep top pressure on my opponent and avoid long periods of time in guard’ guard. My entire game is based around pretty much not getting folks into guard. My first two coaches at my original gym were college wrestlers that found jits later in life and it was a just a sin to be on our backs. They always said guard is just that, a position to guard you from attack to transition to a dominant attack. So sweep, sweep and sweep.
But I do love the 2 on 1 into a diamond guard variant. Getting to the half way done omoplata or a triangle.

At blue belt I played butterfly and half, a lot. For me, even with short legs, I've learned to really like closed guard. I've been able to really make it work for me and it gives me another layer in my guards. The hook sweep is still probably my most efficient sweep. Now if I can start from close, I'm able to put a bunch of different guards. My guard playbook kind of follows this flow:
Closed -> DLR -> Lasso -> Butterfly -> Half
However based on the opponents reaction you could do Closed -> Spider or Closed -> DLR -> Spider or something like that.
