Are there any BJJ schools out there that are requiring folks to be vaccinated to train, or are otherwise separating un-vaxxed people from everyone else? Something like a vaccination passport of sorts like the airlines are rumored to be doing?
Not trying to discuss whether or not gyms SHOULD... just asking if anything like that is actually happening... I'm not trying to lose my really cool white ribbon thing I have on my picture up in here and get locked up in beltchecker jail...

When I was a visitor on vacation I just came in with a negative covid test. I would think a passport would open a facility up to potential lawsuits as there are opinions on this that state it violates HIPPA and some that feel it doesn't. what about people like me that cannot get one right now for medical reasons are they going to restrict me from training? is that now discrimination because of my disability? Remember some Airlines are kinda requiring them but there is much debate over this, I have been in the aviation field for over 20 years and the topic has been discussed so much over the last year! People try to say this is like yellow fever "passport" that is required, but that was not a private business requirement but a CDC requirement. Remember the universal passport system took something like 50 years to create!
Great question with millions of open-ended answers!

I’ve typed out three different comments and deleted each of them because I didn’t want to be responsible for getting this thread deleted.
I posted a long reply to someone and deleted the whole thing.

We're not reopened yet, but have discussed the possibility of requiring proof of vaccination and preregistering for classes (no drop-ins) for a period of time as part of a phased return to normalcy. I believe we are still intending to do this when we can reopen (hopefully next month). We wouldn't be issuing "vaccine passports" - when you get vaccinated here you already get a CDC record card that we could take as proof of vaccinated status to let someone sign up for class times. We'd be requiring that proof as a part of the registration process to sign up for class times.
To the question of what we'd do about folks who can't or won't get vaccinated - the hope is this wouldn't be a permanent measure, but yeah, short-term I expect we'd be turning them away. There are definitely no concerns with HIPPA because the student would elect to disclose the information themselves - we're not querying their doctor's office for information without their consent or even looking them up in some state registry or something. We've discussed concerns around ADA Title III which is arguably more pertinent, but the conversations we've had around it lead us to believe we'd still be in the clear on that front, similar to how we're already okay to turn people away when they have a skin disease like ringworm or staph that we don't want spread.

I have had to deal with HIPPA compliance in the past for data requirements so I have some familiarity with this. My business can ask whatever information we want about health and make the determination as to whether or not we believe training presents a risk to you or other people. What I would need to do is NOT tell anyone what you told me. My understanding is that I can ask if you have been vaccinated and if you refuse to tell me I can decide to not let you train. If you DO tell me then I am required to NOT tell anyone else.
But...to be fair, the requirement should probably also include whether or not you have already had COVID-19 or tested positive and are no longer testing positive or have taken the antibody test and had a positive result. That person should be treated the same as someone who got the vaccine.

Yes this is in line with what we currently require for participating in the BJJ Globetrotters camps as well

I'm going to do the exact opposite.
If you've been vaccinated or if you wear a mask you will not be allowed to train.
Place is going to be packed.

If you were down south here in the US with us that would be 100% true.

See, that makes sense. People requiring the vaccine only don't understand the nature of viruses very well.
Hell, I would say it's pretty obvious most people don't understand the nature of viruses at all.

I do not require a test result, vaccination result, passport etc. We have a small group. If you want to train, are an adult that can make decisions, then it is up to you. If no one wants to drill or roll because they have a fear of Covid, they stay away.

I tried covid last year and it didn't affect my life in any way, except of course in that I had to quarantine to protect the weaklings. :) (Only symptom was a mild tingle in my throat for a few days.) I would gladly take on the infection every year if I was only concerned about my own well-being. But I know a lot of folk who have had it or would have it way worse than me.
That said, I will get vaxxed as soon as possible just in order to resume traveling (to train BJJ among other things), but unfortunately we're in a permanent-seeming shortage situation in Finland with no idea when I will get it fully, being in the final priority group. Not planning to argue why I believe the scientific studies regarding the vaccines, pretty much like with other medicine I'd have to take in certain other medical situations.
What bothers me a bit though, is that at least here they now give people only a 6 month "pass" after the vaccination. (Makes sense according to studies and you get the same post-infection; since you have the antibodies you don't have to isolate if you get exposed etc.) I'm not very keen on getting double-shot twice a year for who knows how long....
Can't really see any requirements for vaccinations or negative test results coming up as the means to access training anywhere in Finland. It's just not how things are done here.

I’ve withheld a lot of comments in this thread mostly so it does not get locked and for the fact that most people are not going to change their opinions even in the face of mountains of evidence. With that said I will just encourage you to do just a little bit of research to see how wrong you are.
"Do your own research" is kinda the most unhelpful thing currently from both "sides".
Anyway, Israel seemingly figured it out and it seems to work for them and a whole country worth of data is quite enough IMO to generalise from...
Also as always, what best seems to change opinions is strong personal evidence - e.g. people pro state regulations/recommendations go more lenient and relaxed when they themselves or ppl they know have got it not that bad or not that much and ppl against state regulations/recommendations can turn to take them more seriously when themselves or someone close has had it bad...

It's vaccination important ? Should you be vaccinated before you roll? If no why ? If yes why yes?
I did consider making it a rule that you have to be vaccinated in order to train at my gym, though I couldn't realistically do that until everybody had been offered the vaccine and also had both shots (which in England will probably be autumn this year, if all goes well). As I'd rather not have anti-vax type people training with me anyway, that would be an added bonus.
But yeah, difficult to implement, unless the whole vaccine passport thing actually gets off the ground and works properly, which I doubt. Best I can do is to at least ensure all the instructors are vaccinated by the autumn, as that's something I can police (I'm 40, so should hopefully be getting my first shot next month).
