If it is easy to read then did you even say anything at all? Still not as bad as John Danaher. Not yet anyways lol

Grappling Industries uses smooth comp which doesn't allow them to make any brackets on the fly. If it doesn't exist when they set the tournament up before the deadline for register they can't create it, and they can't make any exceptions for late registration. Not a fan.

I know they can edit any existing brackets however they please at the very least at the event itself literally moments before the matches begin and even the type or bracket from a single elimination to a best 2 out of 3 if you had 3 people and one withdrew for example. Newbreed does it all the time and uses smoothcomp. Not sure about them being able to create a brand new bracket though.
I know they can add or edit a bracket within a day or two after the event happened as well for records purposes so I see no reason why they couldn't on the spot except out of just being lazy.
It's basically the same as all those fast food places telling you the ice cream machine is down late at night. They don't want to do extra work.

There is this kind of older article: https://www.bjjee.com/art[...]the-world/ There are also a good number of schools out there with dual affiliations going on. Some are even GB schools. I think if you count all affiliated schools (including dual affiliates) then bjj globetrotters are most likely the largest affiliation, worldwide. Something also tells me that Christian probably actually has some hard data on this...
Ah, that makes sense about the dual affiliation.

IBJJF is still the only organization that will force you to take a participation medal for non participation. I have gotten a couple participation trophies so to speak from losing but never have I gotten one for not even competing. I kind of feel like some people might even game this system and cherry pick certain masters weight divisions to win a 'world championship' with no one even in the division. One of their tournaments I went to my opponents missed weight and another didn't show up and they force you to take a participation medal for non participation. And they offer no refund or voucher option and refuse to allow you to enter another division or face someone else. You basically just wasted all your time and money for no reason. Why I will never sign up for another one of their tournaments except worlds or pans or something. I still would like to do worlds masters but that would be it. And still would have to find a way to be able to sign up lol
I've gotten participation trophies before at other tournaments.
But yes, the number 1 rule they will tell you at any IBJJF rules meeting is that they will not issue a refund under any circumstances. They reiterate this time and time again.

No I can’t easily do that, sorry. Also, the list of individual members is just who ever signed up themselves on the website, so that number is not necessarily very useful.
No worries, I didn't know enough about the affiliation to understand where that statement was coming from.

So have I...but what I was saying is that only at the IBJJF can you get a participation trophy for NON participation. lol

it seemed crappy to me. Merger, refund/credit or participation medal, he should have been offered one of the three.
I manange a number of tournaments in my local area. We use Smoothcomp to run them and it's really pretty easy to adjust brackets before the bracket has started. (as long as you have someone competent managing the event software)
We always look to add someone to another bracket in circumstances like that, and offer a medal or credit / refund if there's no way to get them a spot on the day.
Sounds like the GI rep couldn't be bothered
People often forget, when you're providing a service for customers it's to everyone's benefit when the customer feels fairly treated

That's not true.
I manage 10-12 comps a year using smoothcomp and make changes to brackets on the day all the time.
I can't change a bracket once the first match has been run, but until then I can add or delete competitors or redo draws easily

When you live in the middle of nowhere, competing in IBJJF takes plane tickets and hotel reservations. Even if you were to get refunded for the event, you would be out those other expenses. I guess a non-participation medal is reward for the effort in that regard lol.
