What's the worse behavior by a coach, competitor, parent or ref you've seen at a tournament? I got to watch a coach make a complete ass of himself and become the main topic amongst everyone in attendance this past Saturday at a Newbreed tournament in Maryland and it got me thinking about how often I see this and how disappointing it is.

You see it most often in the kid's divisions with fathers yelling at their kids and acting all crazy.

Reminds me of this video for some reason. https://www.youtube.com/w[...]oIa1I3ZLW0

I've never really seen any seriously shitty behaviour at tournaments except for the ocassional reckless slam and whatnot but those things tend to happen in the heat of battle.

One thing that comes to mind is a dude who lost the final in his bracket at a local non-ibjjf tournament and got so pissed he decided not to show up for the medal podium. Very unsportsmanlike in my opinion and goes against the spirit of competition.

Take your loss and honor the opponent who beat you, it's not like there is anything real at stake in these kinds of tournaments.

You mean to tell me that some people behave badly at tournaments? It's that a thing?

Rickson throwing a water bottle at a ref. Worst behavior ever.
I've seen a well known coach threaten to beat up a 14 year old kid on crutches. He had to be dragged out of the venue. That was the worst I've ever seen. But the guy this weekend was pretty bad as well.

This was a few years ago, but my friend's son was going to compete in his first tournament so a bunch of us went down earlier than needed to see his son compete. His son was on a certain mat 2nd on the day, so we were there waiting when he was "on deck" in the division prior to my friend's son competing (these kids were probably 4-5 years old) there was a takedown and scramble and one of the coaches started barking at the ref for 2 points... at this point I knew it was going to be a long day... the guy who was coaching was berating referees the entire day. I don't know how he still had his voice at the end of the day, it was non-stop. I don't know why people yell at referees so much, I haven't really seen it accomplish anything productive.

This pretty much describes exactly what was happening this past weekend. Coach was arguing about sweep points given to the other guy even though he was winning and then kept yelling at the ref at the end of a 7-2 match about he measly 2 points! Then went after the other coach who told to back off the ref. Then was screaming in the next match about the same thing and even starting yelling at the opponent.

And people wonder why none of the high level Black Belts are reffing and why, as a result, the reffing isn't good.

I saw Ralph threaten/try to beat up Bobby Southworth when Bobby was on crutches at a tournament.

Back in the day, there were threats and near fights between well known coaches and refs at most tournaments. I've had points given to me and then taken away and given to my opponent in a match with no explanation. I swept him, and he got the points because the middling blue to purple belt I was competing against was in the same association as the ref. Now, I can't imagine the ref would care so much about this inconsequential match that he'd part with his dignity like that, but he did.

I saw a guy in Vegas headbutt another coach over a little kids match. His kid lost by sub and he was going nuts
