Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever worn a heart rate monitor when they’ve trained? I’m curious what kind of numbers you got as far as calories burned. Yes I know, it doesn’t matter and heart rate monitors aren’t always accurate, I’m just curious.

We wear them regularly for many of our classes. It varies widely, of course. But the numbers for sparring in a BJJ class are pretty impressive, somewhere around the 600-800 calories/hour. We use use the chest straps which tend to be more reliable.
But the numbers for a Muay Thai class are better. We use the Hykso trackers along with the hear rate monitors sometimes and pad work wins when it comes to HIIT training in the Academy. Pad work numbers are more like 1000-1200 calories/hour which is unsustainable.

Yes! Agree 100%.
I get around 450 on a light day and 750 on a hard drill/sparring day.
But... Muay Thai pad work will push 700+ on a light day.

I use a chest strap occasionally and the highest result I ever got was ~800 calories for a tough sparring session. The maximum heart rate was about 185.
Btw, I weigh in at around 78 kilograms, so the results will vary for someonle lighter or heavier as mentioned above by Joemoplata.

Man of average age and about 88 kilos burned 2200 calories in 90 minutes. It was a sparring/competition class, so very high intensity through the whole class. Takes about 72 hours to recover from that.
A regular class is about 800 caloreis as others have stated.
There is a reason why I only do max 2 hard classes per week. :D

Pad work numbers are more like 1000-1200 calories/hour which is unsustainable.
These numbers are very very likely off - our bodies are way more energy efficient.
