I agree with the extensive process of checking up to blackbelt, but once you start getting second and third degrees (which are just given out over time) you should just check the time between belts that you already approved. It was easier to get my second degree blackbelt certificates from the IBJJF (where I had to get a background check, take a referee course, and also take a sexual harassment course) than it has been here. Also, this page took my previous ability to vote away while sitting here waiting for months or whatever to get mine approved. So I can't vote for my students, while I sit and wait for months to get mine approved. Shouldn't I at least still have the voting weight of my previous 1st degree black belt?

Anyway, if you want to vote for me it is much appreciated. If you want to roll with me I'm in Buffalo, NY. But overall I think the blackbelt degree process isn't optimal here.

Thanks

You must've done smth wrong - time served updates on black belt do NOT trigger the cancellation of "verified" status.

I just received a notification a couple days ago to re-verify a purple belt who just added a stripe on his belt. Maybe there's a glitch?

I get a lot of notifications for guys updating their promotion date when they add a stripe. They should not be updating their promotion date with a stripe promotion.

No that's not possible. Changing the stripes only can in no way trigger re-verification. I guarantee that if we look in the database, there was something else changed in the promotion history.

This is exactly what the system does. But I can see that you first added your second degree promotion record with "JT Torres" as promoter and "Buffalo United Martial Arts" as location, then a few minutes later changed it to "time served" promotion without a promoter or location. Your first change triggered re-verification of your profile (as warned by the system) because the community of course needed to verify that JT Torres was actually the promoter. Had you only done a “time served” promotion, it would have been instantly approved and you would have kept all your votes since nobody needs to count the years for you, except this system itself.

Secondly, the time it takes for verification is strongly dependent on your network here, notifying your friends/training partners, your activity on the forums (this post helps) and, most importantly, how well documented your profile is. Some verifications take a very short time, some a very long time. Statistics on this: https://www.beltchecker.c[...]rification. Regardless, it should not be possible to potentially fake something significant on your profile - such as a belt rank - and then still be able to vote with your “old rank” before everything is ok'ed by the community. That would be a logistical and technical mess :)

Got a stripe last week, no re-verification needed. However, I get a lot of notifications for stripes and almost every time it’s because people change their promotion date.
