Children's profiles shouldn't require full name to be public in the internet. It's unsafe for children. Nick names should be acceptable.

I agree.. Too much info online for kids is not a good thing.

I have a student's mom who asked to deactivate because of this issue, but I really want to keep all students with record in belt checker

They don't have to use their real name or even verify it. They can use all functionality on the site with an un-verified profile, except for voting. But voting is disabled for children anyway, so it doesn't even make a difference :)

I just added this to the FAQ in case anyone else have the same question
One question, couldn't you have a check box in profile to use nickname in profile instead of real name, I understand you still need real name for verification purposes and still would need it for setup, for my job we have messaging app that allows the use of nickname instead of real name.

That would effectively allow people to vote with anonymous profiles, which would go against the fundamental idea of the site. You’re most welcome to use a nickname, or even an anonymous profile picture, but then you just can’t join the voting or forum, that’s all.

Also, if we allowed ID verified children to hide their real name, we would also have to disable other profiles to be able to vote for them . Otherwise, who does one vote for and what keeps the nickname from sounding like it's actually another (existing) person. The voting system only works if everyone are sure that the voter and the votee are who they say they are.

Children shouldn't even have public profiles that can be viewed unless on their friends list.
The only debate really should be what age should be allowed to be public. 13, 16, 18 etc. Anyone under 13 should just be friends only that can view the profiles.
Then the parents can still keep track of all their accomplishments but no need for it to be public.

They can just make an anonymous profile with a fake name and neutral profile picture and have access to all the features of the site (except for voting). Verifying identity is not mandatory.
Additionally, they can also just use a deactivated profile, which will hide it from public but still be fully useable for the user.

well, i can't help either.
I thought you can see what's missing here?
I don't know if they can take an animal photo. is that possible,
or does the system not recognize it?

They can use what ever photo they want, but it's not possible to verify your identity as a lion.
