Very interesting topic! The last two for sure. First with gi: fighting on the feet with a strong dude, i got the throw, I passed, i got the mount, i could have tried to set up my favourite move and win (arm triangle), but i went for a shitty ezekiel choke that i NEVER use
And still I don't really know why, the guy escaped swept me and after a scramble got me in a very good triangle as I rushed to pass again.
Other one: good fight back and forth
In the semifinals I end up losing for 2 points and that was ok and he deserved the win. But I broke my middle finger extensor tendon in my stronger hand
And could not fight for the 3rd place and that was a bitter pill to swallow.
That's life XD

I have gotten really good at giving people the most annoying losses ever when I feel lazy and know I have several more matches. lol
I have almost perfected the single advantage win by an "attempted sweep" at the last second against spazzy big ass wrestlers who I can just hold in open guard for 5 minutes. Not even using closed guard to hold them so I don't feel that bad at doing it either. They just rush forward like a heard of buffalo trying to kill Mufasa for no reason.

one's my brother fought and the ref ask them to hand check, then he turn his face to ask the table to start the clock and on that time my bro jump flying triangle and tap the guy...the ref was WTF just happened ? Then he ask them to fight again (pretty stupid ref for sure, but it was like 20 years ago) on the "second fight" he jump flying armbar after a few seconds...that was embarrassing loss for his opponent fur sure lol

It was 2005 when I grappled David Lejenäs (one of the OGs of Swedish competitive grappling) in BJJ Finnish Open. He was an experienced brownbelt, I was a fresh bluebelt.
He expected me to wrestle but I did the reverse Uno and pulled closed guard on him immediately and was confident I will NOT open my closed guard NO MATTER WHAT.
He didn't have any success opening on the knees (I threatened a few gi chokes to show I'm active) and every time he stood up to open, I knocked him over with the classic "underhook leg, hip into it" sweep getting an advantage (this was BEFORE rule change that you HAVE to open legs and really get to top to score advantage).
In the end he baited me triangles sticking his wrist inside my legs and armbars by putting an arm across my body but NO WAY I was going to take a risk and abandon A WINNING STRATEGY :D
I think I won 6 advantages to 0. The ref ACTUALLY MISSED at least 1 (if not 2) of those same attempts because he was so bored that he looked at the match on other mat.
When my hand was raised I felt like on top of the world. I'm rather sure he felt he didn't really lose :D
(in same competition in the finals I was stalled out by another bluebelt... karma I guess...)

My most annoying losses are definitely cases of "analysis paralysis" where I get too locked in on one strategy or technique and fail to see the other options. Overall, I have had challenges where watching the video back it was obvious that I should have gone for a different technique at a crucial point in a match... I haven't had the chance to compete since joining a different gym, however I look forward to it because with my new gym the ability to train from standing in a "competition style" is much more common so I feel my style has grown considerably in the past year.
