I'm also interested in participating in some of SJJIF's upcoming tournaments. I'm waiting to hear back from them to see if there are any restrictions in participating in other countries' events. USA has one in Arlington, TX on April 16th, 2022.

I have competed and reffed for SJJIF for 'Dumau' competitions in Singapore. The rules are almost the same, with some key differences. From what I remember: 1. No need to count 3 seconds when sweeping, you will get points immediately. EDIT: I checked this is wrong, need 3 second count. Sorry. 2. back mount gives you points (mount position and the bottom guy is facing the floor) 3. you get awarded with reversals EDIT: Immediate reversal from takedown / guard pass attempt by opponent, then hold position for 3 seconds These are the main difference that I remember, They may have changed the rules so I need to review it again.
I'm almost 99.9% positive that the IBJJF also has those same rules in place.

As we're on Beltchecker, how good is SJJIF:s control before showing your name in the online BB list or issuing belt certificates?
From what I could see on the homepage, you only need to fill in what degree you claim, promoting instructors name, phone number and e-mail (not his degree) and then declare that all information provided for membership is accurate and true (plus pay 300$ if you want a paper certificate). No apparent need for the promoting instructor to be registered with SJJIF, but does anyone know if and in that case how they control the promotion information? Do they just wing it or do they actually contact the instructor and would they discover if the promoting instructor e.g. lied about his lineage or had less than 2:nd degree BB?
Also, can you claim any degree at any time or do they actually keep track on when you were promoted to your last BB degree, in order to deny new degrees if your last degree with them wasn't at least three years ago?

New finds in the SJJIF Rulebook - Rules and regulations (https://files.sjjif.com/p[...]_DEC18.pdf), article 3 Federation Membership
"29.7 Children may be promoted through belts in the following order: [...] Only black
belts certified by the SJJIF may promote students through the belts listed."
"30.4 Adults may be promoted through belts in the following order" - Note that this article does NOT require adult belt promotions to be from a BB certified by SJJIF.
"3.3 Through SJJIF membership the federation is able to maintain an accurate record of each registered
members’ lineage, belt promotion, course participation, competition history, and ranking under one
governing body. [They should thus conserve records of lineage, at least in internal records]
3.4 The SJJIF reserves the right to contact the instructor of an applicant as well as other resources to
ensure accuracy and veracity in the records of belt rankings of SJJIF members. Further
membership information is available at http://www.sjjif.org. [This sounds as if it's only verified with promoting instructor in some instances]
3.5 SJJIF membership entitles an individual to an SJJIF ID card that recognizes their Jiu-Jitsu belt rank
and citizenship. This card also contains the following membership benefits:
a) Member will have an SJJIF ID card and member number;
b) Will be listed as a current member under the SJJIF website;" [Same as SJJIF:s online BB-list, for BB:s? I.e. even if promotion is not controlled with stated promoting instructor?]
"In order to be awarded grandmaster belts [from 7:th degree], it is necessary that the black belt is a current SJJIF member and be listed
as a main instructor or assistant instructor at an SJJIF member school.

Does sjjif come near your area? I have thought about competing with them state side to see how they run but we have jjwl here and they do a good job at being an alternative to ibjff insomuch as a platform for competition solely.
