Cripes! Based on my record of being proficient enough to be promoted, I'll be 103 by the time I promote myself to 10th degree. :)
Is there even a recommended time anywhere for 10:th degree, as IBJJF only reserves it for the founding brothers?
Who (who would want it) would even be considered for a 10:th degree by the community?

Btw, does anyone know of any other martial arts which has a "0:th dan" black belt, like BJJ does? As we know, technically speaking, BJJ has 11 different degrees of black (or higher) belt while Judo (with the original belt system) only has ten.

Any other styles than BJJ and kempo that has stripes on black belts? In kempo, the first black belt degree seems to already have the first stripe.

That's why I said this, "by the time I promote myself to 10th degree". I can promote myself any time after I get my 9th. Maybe it will be a week, maybe a month, but I'm not waiting long.

And fuck the ibjjf :)

Interesting history of the belt by the Valente Brothers. They said that back then, there were no colored belts, just white and blue. The dark blue was reserved for instructors. Colored belts developed over time to encourage children in judo initially and later on BJJ adopted the practice. Feel free to check the video below for more.

.....and yet.....if it weren't for the Gracies most of you would still be practicing your Kata and horsestances. LOL

It's kind of paradoxical :-)

I love reads like this, but I wish the writers would use references. Maybe it’s the college in me, but I love some good referenced works.
Choque does a really good job at citing and providing references if you're interested in more of the context
