Are any of you doing ice baths before or after training?

My instructor got me into doing the ice baths. He brought a breathing coach in and we set up the horse troth with the ice and water and dipped in for 3 minutes each. It kinda sucks getting used to after fist but, after a few dips I noticed it's not that bad anymore.

I am noticing a difference from the ice baths. I'm definitely not sore for 3-5 days like I was before. I would find myself going into class sore from the last class as we spar every class at the end of class. Now it's about 1 to 2 days I will be sore and shit recently the last couple classes not sore at all as I continue the ice baths once a day. Pretty legit. I'm 39yrs old and I can't roll like the young bucks anymore and not be feeling like shit for a few days after. If you're not doing this yet you should try it out but I guess it's not for everyone.

I live in Finland. It's cold 80% of the year, so no ice baths needed.

Personally, my body reacts way better to warmth. A good 15 minute sauna session, or a 30 minute hot tub session actually feels good during and afterwards.

I do ice baths and sauna regularly.
When I can do it before training I will as I
prefer it but most of the time due to
scheduling I have to do them after class or on off days.

I do three 3 minute rounds of cold and two 10-15mins of sauna in between

I always start with the cold and finish with the cold. The sauna rounds are in between.

3 mins Cold to start
10-15mins Sauna
3 mins Cold
10-15mins Sauna
3-5mins or more sometimes Cold to finish.

I started doing this after my neck herniations got so bad I could not even lay my head on a pillow and would sleep upright.
Also have had lower back surgery and it keeps me moving.

Forgot to mention that I do the Wim Hof breathing while in the cold.

Ice bad can help for sure, but i'm not capable of doing it all along the year, for me it's more like to help for recovery or when i feel that i need to.

Otherwise i prefere hot sauna or hamam.

You have to listen to your body and find what work for you

I am unaware of well designed trials showing benefit for sauna or ice baths beyond placebo effect. That being said, the placebo effect is real and has a benefit. I’m personally a sauna person myself and I feel great after being in the sauna so my take is do whichever one helps you recover

As I've always said, I don't care why I'm getting relief as long as I'm getting relief. I'll take a placebo pill everyday if it helps me recover from rolling on consecutive days. The placebo and nocebo effect is as large at 30% on things like penicillin and statins. They mind body connection is real.
