in a friendly roll, out of all the more intelligent options available, choose to go for the nasty punch choke so often (especially with knuckles into skull behind the ear, into jaw etc) :)
That is basic technique and often the most easy and efficient way to finish a choke. Like just about everything else in BJJ, it comes from traditional judo. When you say "intelligent options", you are probably thinking "kind options that don't hurt", but BJJ isn't a kind sport, and a certain amount of pain compliance is necessary and expected.

Oh, I've got a fucking list:
1. Eating food on the mats - whilst I'm teaching
2. People leaving sweaty underwear in the changing rooms
3. People leaving toenails on the mats 🤢
4. People leaving used finger tape in little balls on the windowsills, rather than the bin
I could go on, but I'd be here all night.

Do you get a lot of people who forget single shoes? That's the big one I don't get. How do you forget a single shoe?!?!?! Did they just not notice they were only wearing one shoe?!?!?!

I've had people leave solitary shoes, and a complete pair - also, I find no less than one pair of socks every time I'm in. One time a student took my shoes home and I had to wear my gym shoes for the rest of the day!

I once had a guy come in for a trial class. He went full spazz and got shut down accordingly.
His angry response was this:
"You guys didn't let me do a single thing! I couldn't move AT ALL! That's NOT fair!!!"
I mean, really, dog?

This pretty much sums up what Danaher said in 'Kimura: Enter The System By John Danaher' → Vol 6 → The Great Mystery of Closed Guard Kimura.
In all honesty, the "but Danaher said this" syndrome is really damn annoying. Thing is, especially when teaching beginners classes, there's the best technique which works at the highest level, and there's the version you teach because you've got a complete beginner with two left hands who's having problems begin coordinated enough to do a simple Arm Drag.
There's a phase in some people's training where you're not worried about being effective, because you're just trying to get them to a point where they understand the difference between right and left. I can't tell you how many times I've tough someone and the instructions are along the lines of, "put your left foot on his hips. The left foot. No, the left foot on his hips. Those aren't his hips. Okay, now move your body to the right, the right. That's the left. Don't let go of his arm."
You sometimes have to simplify training for people until they've got enough of a foundation to expand on. And the constant, "but Danaher said this" is just slowing that process.

Chris, I feel your pain. I love having no-stripe white belts ask me how to do a Berimbolo or a flying triangle choke because they watched a few YouTube videos on the subject. I doubt many high school freshmen ask their geometry teachers if they can do some advanced calculus, but in Jiu-Jitsu, it seems like everybody wants to jump straight to the advanced material. :)

I can sure relate to this. I have a couple of lines I use to instill a little humor which I find really help bring the points home: to wit, "No, the OTHER left side" or "The floor is that grey thing beneath your feet". The latter is for the innumerable times when I'm teaching a foot sweep and I tell them to keep the sweeping foot on the floor, but it inevitably goes whooshing through the air a foot off the ground.

and NO matter how much you tell them that as a black belt you mainly do basics only they never listen. hell, as a purple belt I find the higher I go, the less I do and it's mostly all basics
