Man, I was literally rolling the same day I got a huge chunk of color filled in and you should see the damage i did. You are wise to take your time.
I have done it before when I was in the No GI scene. I got a call piece done and covered it with a compression bandage, which didn't work!

This is my latest (my 11th), on my left shin. As usual, looooads more booked over the next few years (mostly small, though there will be a big one on the right shin in June).

Ooof, yeah, rolling the same day is a super bad idea, as you found out. I always leave mine at least two weeks before sparring. All the tattoo retouches would get expensive fast! ;)

I got knee tats and trained judo on them just a few hours afterwards. They turned out fine. Judo was more painful than normal, for sure.

Got my right shin done week: I've been waiting a few years. Originally I was meant to go to Norway in 2020, so after postponing the trip twice, finally got to Niddhogg in Bergen this month. 8hr session, worth it! Looking forward to getting colour added to this, hopefully next year.

This is my only jiu-jitsu themed one. Not finished yet. I need to add a few numerals for when I got my brown and black belts. Just like the blue and purple numerals. But I never get around to it, although I have just finished two sleeves in the mean time

Hooray, now I can be slightly more distinct from the thousands of other "middle aged white guys with shaved heads" in BJJ. ;)

Tricky to get a good pic, but it's pretty simple anyway. Healed up fairly well so far, though it's still under two weeks since I got it. Plus I'm still really lazy about bothering to shave my head properly. Meh, there's enough hair left which grows back that it sorts itself out in the end. :P

I have a an appointment Aug 7 for some new ink... BJJ/MT themed... :)
I assume you'll be basing it on a screenshot of you confirming somebody's belt on Beltchecker? :P

Here's a pretty good shot of my knee tats, whilst I'm getting my ass handed to me at the latest tournament I competed at.

It's a non-prison-related take on a common Russian prison tattoo theme: the stars on my knees indicate that I don't kneel to anybody... which is a little ironic, since I'm married... The bjj black belts are added to the stars, and since I've always been a staunchly unaffiliated grappler throughout my career, you can probably infer the symbolism. In any case, I think they're totally bad-ass and original lol...

Nothing original about that, I suppose.

Edit: just realized my opponent has a bunch of tattoos as well. I'm the guy on bottom, in case that wasn't initially made clear...

My newest one after countless sessions and 12 months finally finished
Committed! Out of curiosity, how much cash did a huge piece like that set you back, all told? And how many hours?

I had about 12 sessions, every session 3-4 hours, depending on how I could handle the pain, one hour session 100€…. But I thought you only live once and I wanted to have a Backpiece ever since…. So, just did it.

Oh, I don't mind tattoos on on bone. Preferable, in fact: shins are my fave, in terms of being least painful.

The little piggy feet weren't fun though, as those were right at that bend where the instep meets the shin. 😉
