Matheus Gabriel, Meyram Maquine, Ary Farias, and Thalison Soares are accusing him. What relevance does it have which publication states that?
If a publication has a reputation for subpar "journalism", and it's the only source sited in the post, that may impact its relevance.

This is all over the news and the Alcenor Alves is in prison already. Matheus, Meyram, Ary and Thalison posted in their Instagram a note confirming this story. I think it is great that IBJJF is stripping his belt. What is to dislike about that?

It says they posted the accusations to Instagram, is that something you dispute?

Brah I'm not disputing anything. When this story broke, the first and only source that was sited was from bjjee, as the first time I heard about it was here on this thread. So I decided to make a small, sarcastic joke, that I think most people understood.
A lot has happened since then. It's all over my social media feeds now, including the aforementioned statement from ibjjf.
Y'all need to chill, lol.
I think this is yet another unfortunate story of someone taking advantage of their position of power in bjj/martial arts, and it's unfortunately going to keep happening.

Stated sources in the BJJEE article (but without more exact links or references) are those below. I personally haven't tracked down and verified those sources. If a publication has a reputation for subpar "journalism", as Robert expressed it, it is of course very relevant to be open to the possibility of the story not holding up and increases the need of confirmation through further publications and/or through checking up the stated sources. Something I wanted to be very transparent with that I hadn't put in the effort of doing, thus asking if anyone else has more insight (before or after doing some research). Claiming something hasn't happened or claiming more and/or better evidence is needed is two different things.
Stated sources in the BJJEE article:
*"Several world-renowned Jiu-Jitsu champions, including Matheus Gabriel, Meyram Maquine, Ary Farias, and Thalison Soares, have publicly addressed"...
*"In an emotional interview with TV Globo, [Matheus] Gabriel"...
*"The Amazonas Civil Police, acting on a warrant, have charged him with rape of vulnerable persons and sexual exploitation. Juliana Tuma, the lead investigator"...
*"White House Jiu-Jitsu, where Alves served as a high-performance technical director, issued a statement"...
*"Prominent figures in the sport, including Checkmat coach Keiser Girao, have expressed"...
Plus an embedded 2:nd hand info instagram-post in Portuguese.

Not really, you'd be hard pressed to find a publication that hasn't disgraced themselves in the last 4 years. It's just a display of people's biases as to which ones they think have any kind of reputation left.
How about we don't shoot the messenger and just address the claims on their merit...

I wish reality was as utopic as this forum with the ZERO TOLERANCE I have met plenty of guys not only in the bjj community but in the martial arts community that have been harassing, divulging intimate pictures of girls FROM THEIR GYMS and also not from their gyms, violent guys with restriction orders, one rape case I heard so far... guess what? these guys still train and some of them are professors in academies, lots of girls quit or switch of academies to avoid contact with their agressors, one of my friends sued a guy after he pushed her to a car and then to the floor and through her lawyer she found out there were some aggressors with sues in that same gym he trained at, and I could keep typing horror storys like this, its disgusting, we are supposed to be contempo-samurais and follow an ethical code, your virtues, values and vices should be taken into consideration before giving you a belt. Martial Arts arent supposed to be just exercise, they are supposed to be a life philosophy
First off, the "Samurai" analogies in the BJJ communities, are silly.
Samurai, like European knights, were largely illiterate thugs, and rapists, that brutalized, raped, plundered, and murdered, the peasant and farmer populations.
The Good News is, both of those demographics died of dysentery more than they did in combat, so that's a karmic consolation prize, as that means they died, shitting their brains out, with no dignity.
Second off, while I don't approve of the behaviors that you have described of the males,
Females can be and are just as misbehaved in gym settings.
Regarding martial arts being a life philosophy, we have to be careful not to take that to cult-y places.

Unfortunately I have to agree 100% in both points.

wow, I am sorry you have had to deal with that. Martial Arts in my opinion ARE supposed to help each person better themselves and become a better human being.
I take for granted being around good human beings and weeding out the jerks quickly. I can only hope everyone who has had to deal with bullshit like this has found a gym home that is welcoming and can help everyone feel comfortable and included and can learn.
That is certainly how I try to run our school and classes.

hahahaha I take back the samurai part lol. I based the statement in the bushido code values but I guess the expectation was better than the reality of it. What kind of cult-y places have you guys seen? I have only noticed one so far but I saw both of your profiles and you have been in this way longer than me, would you share some stories? zero tolerance should be for both males and females, I mentioned those issues because is what I have seen so far, hope to not see more. greets from mexico
The Bushido code was nonsense and used as a tool to promote Japanese nationalism and the idea of japanese superiority over lesser races

Are you trying to say that we didn't see the results of high standing morals in the Japanese occupations of the early 1900:s and throughout WW2?

I will assume this is irony, and sarcasm.
Nevermind.
We could ask the Korean women, and their families, that were forced into sex slave roles.
Or the families of the prisoners in Japanese POW camps, how the Japanese took crazy bat shit sadism on prisoners of war, to Hitler Third Reich levels.

Talking about Bushido code or Bullshido code?
I apologize in advance if I might hurt someone's feelings while using dark humor in order to process the above-mentioned.
And
Correct me if I am wrong, only good objective feedback will allow growth of skills!
Example of how to deal with criminals:
Wondering if we should address sex offenders kendo style:
Breaking a shinai on someone's head and yell: MEN! (what the -fill the blank)
Or
Hojojitsu style. Hang them on trees, show the world what criminal act they did in the form of knotted ropes.
If the gesture of a middle finger on a podium can generate a ban of one year from competition in this day and age..
How long will be the ban for domestic violence or sex-offenders?

I understand the historical value of the sub-subject.
Perhaps we can open another topic/forum and share articles and different sources on the matter. Interested to know more about it and how it affected the current martial art environment. Other questions arise - culturally bound.
Brainstorming out loud:
*Not sure if the format of a survey will provide more clarity on the matter. Perhaps worth to try.

The things the Japanese did were insane. Torture, beheading, rape, experimentation, cannibalism and probably anything and everything else you can think of. Former President GHW Bush was mere minutes from experiencing all the hospitality the Japanese had to offer.

Do not be quick.
Be measured.
Take in all evidence.
Is our goal, Revenge?
Punishment?
Protecting innocents from harm?
Is it Retribution?
Justice?
Well, then, if Justice, was there due process, or were we a mob, crucifying, and stoning people, with our pitchforks, and our righteous ignorance?
Did we burn some women, for being women, calling them witches?
Did we lynch the Black Man?
Or tell the White Man, he was dirty, for being White?
Or the Brown Man, or Woman, for being both or neither?
Or the Asian for being Asian.
Did we stone, or ignore a dirty, stinky, wretch, for being, and already suffering, as a dirty, stinky, wretch?
Did we judge a man, or woman guilty, because he or she was accused, and was a man, or a woman?
And, what does the Data, say, Jim?
Or, does that just not matter, any more...
But, these cases, are more complicated, than just "hang 'em high".
And, if they are not, then we are the guilty party, of a much greater crime.

Likewise, the Wise Emperor might say, or so the old books tell us:
If you decapitate, all the traitors, for their crimes, you may also execute very useful potentiality, if, and only if, all of their other risks, and evils, can be mitigated, prevented, rehabilitated, and abandoned.
On the other hand, in this case,
Very specifically,
Is about Predators, that consume prey most vulnerable.
And if sometimes a cigar is just a cigar,
A scorpion on the back of a frog, swimming across a river, may know no rehabilitation, and it may be that it cannot act against it's nature.
To sting the frog, to drown, being unable to change its nature.
Who can say?
Only God, I suppose, and I have no faith, in anything other than what I can count, and measure, or cannot.
And I honestly disclaim, that which I cannot measure and thereby...all that implies.
