Starting to Compete – What Comps to Do

I’ve just started competing and could use some advice. I’ve done 2 comps so far, but honestly both felt really awkward—I didn’t really know what to expect and I’m still figuring it out.
The gym I train at mainly does NAGA events, so I don’t have much exposure to IBJJF or other formats. I’m wondering:
• For someone just starting out, what comps do you recommend?
• Is it worth branching out beyond NAGA, or should I just stick with what my gym is doing for now?
• Any tips for making competition feel less awkward and more natural?
Appreciate any feedback from people who have been through this early stage.

- Any and all :)

- Yes. Especially if you compete nogi. NAGA's nogi ruleset is atrocious.

- Do more comps. Most of what you're feeling is just classic conditioning; the more you do, the more you get used to it and the less awkward it becomes.
Good luck!
