Black belt is not the final destination but where the real journey begins. There is greater disparity in skill and knowledge among black belts than any other ranks. There is less disparity between a white belt and brand new black belt than among black belts. I’m not trying to minimize the time and efforts it takes to achieve the rank but you will never stop learning jiu-jitsu, submission grappling, BJJ, whatever you want to call it. I would trade everything I know for everything I don’t.

Yep, having started in my 30s I made the realization that through all the colored belts I will be paired with people of my same age, weight and experience level. But if I ever make it to black belt, all of a sudden I can be paired up with someone who has been a black belt longer than I have been training. But I'm just trying to improve myself, work out my mind and body together, and enjoy some friendly competition. I know if I dedicate my efforts the right way that the progress will come along at its own pace.
