Hi there!
My name is Robin, I got awarded a blue belt beginning of this year by my coach Daniele Oneto (two stripe black belt under Ari "Galo" Fernando Araujo Rocha) and I‘m new on beltchecker.com! Please have a look at my profile, any votes are much appreciated!
A bit about my training history: after the pandemic I was the heaviest I‘ve ever been, so I thought I‘d take up martial arts again, as I had done musy thai previously and remembered the tough training well. My new club (which is mainly a kickboxing/thaiboxing gym) also offered a BJJ- and MMA-class. After a couple of months training kickboxing, I thought I‘d „check a couple of classes out“, just to become a more well-rounded martial artist. There was a blackbelt and 3 white belts, as the classes had only started a couple months prior. Needless to say, I got absolutely wrecked by everyone… and I was hooked!
After a year or so, I received my first two stripes alongside the other white belts - as I can‘t remember the exact date, I did not enter it in my profile. Our coach asked us if we were open to the idea of competitions. Unfortunately, I couldn‘t attend the first two tournaments my group went to, as I was sick for a long time. Eventually, I did attend a tournament, but was beaten in the first round. My friends had quite a significant jump up in their skills from their exposure to tournaments, and got promoted to blue belt October last year, whilst I was rewarded my 4th stripe.
I trained hard and tried to work on areas where I was lacking the most, and received my blue belt from my coach Daniele Oneto in January this year.
In April this year I had the great experience of training 1 on 1 with the black belt Miguel Daren Rodriguez for a whole week whilst on vacation in the Maldives (check out Hard Rock Hotel Maldives if you want to train on holiday!).
We remain a tight knit group to this day, all 4 of the „original“ white belt crew including me became blue belts and train weekly together. I have since abandoned training kickboxing to focus on BJJ.
Would really appreciate your votes!
(English is not my mother tongue, my apologies for any mistakes)
EDIT: I forgot to add that I‘m already recognized as blue belt by the IBJJF, but I like the idea of a community driven approach
