If you're rolling before sunrise, what do you love about it, quiet focus, empty roads, or just starting the day with some sweat and reps?

I just recently started a 6:30 AM morning class with Professor Butch. My problem is it seems like Butch is already three steps ahead, dropping knowledge bombs before my coffee even kicks in.

Appreciate the lessons, the pressure, and the mental reps, especially when my neurons are still stretching.

Thanks for making my brain work before sunrise!!!

Now excuse me while I get myself ready to head back to the gym for my lunch time session.

Day class enjoyer here. I've sometimes wondered about the pre-dawn classes, but my wife usually claims that time slot to scratch her fitness itch. I'm not really a morning person either, so it's an uphill climb with more hills at the top for me.

I only hit the mats at 6:00am and I go 3x weekly.
What I like about that time is that its the only time that I'm able to train.
Other than that, I'm at work or being an active father.
The only time I have to train is when everyone else is sleeping.
If there's a seminar or an open mat or a advancement ceremony that i want to attend on the weekends I have to ask my wife to solo parent after everything she does for our family all week long. That makes me feel guilty.

I coach our gyms Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30-7:00 am class and have been for several years now. I like that i am able to still train and be around in the evenings to hang out with my family. I still occasionally go in the evenings but mornings is my main training time. Been hosting a morning round robin tournament for 3 years now annually. I usually do it towards the end of each year and the only requirement to compete: you have to have trained a morning with me at least 1 time that year to be eligible.

Sunday 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM, traveling open mat in the Bay Area called @thekoffeekrew. Honestly been one of the best things for improving game, being part of a larger community, and meeting good people.

I know, Ben. I think what him and his cousin started is a good thing. They have a SoCal one and Texas one now.

I only attend 6a class because I work late days and I cannot get in before 6p. My brain is never fully awake until 640. Haha.
My coffee kicks in just as I get back from practice, like a late triangle that finally locks in. Years ago, when I switched from nights to days, I was up and moving by 5 am like it was warm-ups (before purple belt). Now? My body treats mornings like a stubborn guard pass. Maybe it’s age… or maybe I just need to start brewing my coffee like it’s prepping for competition.

I had to change gyms some time ago and my new gym offered a morning class. It worked out a lot better and now it's something I prefer. Getting up and getting in training is awesome.

Between being at my desk from 9am to 9pm and having 5 kids the o ly time I have available is when most regular people are still sleeping. 6am is my jam.

Days like today, I feel like I am cheating on my training partners for not showing up! But they will be thankful, if this is a cold that I am fighting and not just sinus junk from weather changes!

During my journey I’ve only done it 3 times. Hated it every single occasion.
My academy has only classes that mix technique and rolling in the morning. When you are about to finish waking up you need to roll when the body is still cold. When you are finally awake, class finishes and everyone needs to rush out to get to work. Can’t stay for community purposes nor to drill or explain something…
However I get Justin when he says it’s the only time available sometimes… I feel I am missing time with my daughter now, as when I return from night classes, she is already asleep.
Seriously considering to come in the morning because of that reason.

been doing morning monday and Wednesday sessions for over a year now and hate getting up, but love finishing that last round and how i feel the rest of the day. recovery is key for me to make it feel like a great day instead of a tired and wore out the rest of the day kind of feeling. I love how alert and alive my mind feels after training in the morning at 6 am

I've been running the 6:30AM class for the past couple of years. I find it's the perfect environment to try out the CLA approach to learning. People just don't seem to be very awake yet at such an ungodly hour, and the chances of them retaining some Berimbolo details with a half awake mind is extremely low. Games and positional sparring have been amazing for waking people up and getting them engaged in the training. Since morning classes are usually pretty small there are tons of opportunities for troubleshooting the sparring sessions and I see accelerated growth out of them.
