One prompt only attempt, submitting pictures of Mitsuo Maeda and myself.

Don't think we're there quite yet, but within a year perhaps? I think some basic Photoshop skills would currently be easier to trick a lot of people with here (not just certificate falsifications, which we've already seen), with claims of being promoted by a now dead instructor without any active students here. Perhaps with a lineage which is hard to check and not very known to most, like Fadda lineages.

I suspect that 2025 might be the last (full) year that I will personally verify based on photos. That kind of evidence not submitted for review very soon will lose its value if there's no other kinds of evidence to go with it.

I would really hope time stamps could be added on Beltchecker's photo uploads, so already uploaded photos can be confirmed not to be uploaded at a time when it was far too easy to manufacture. And the possibility to see previous edits of a profile, especially the promotion history. If I once have verified someone, how would I notice if they at a later date changed all their promotion dates to five years earlier and I'm prompted for re-verification? Not always easy to see when the pics are from and would be even more difficult with improved AI de-aging filters.

(btw, the "me" on the pic rather looks like the illegitimate love child of me and Gerard Depardieu)

Human, community-based verification is more relevant than ever, it seems.
Hopefully in a few years Beltchecker will become more mainstream and we can have more people verifying profiles with "I was there when so-and-so was promoted".

Yea AI has gotten out hand but you still can catch little stuff. The pictures still aren't all the way there yet, like said before photoshop looks more real to me if done right plus checking certs if there real and I like seeing lineage especially ties to real coaches/professors and academy/dojo, gyms.

Faking a belt / promotion does not require generative AI, it requires intermediate Photoshop skills.
The picture of Mitsuo Maeda is obviously not a photo, anyone looking at it on a screen larger than an Apple Watch can see that.
This, on the other hand is a real photo and you can ask for it in the full resolution - it's only going to look more convincing.

So personally, I would never verify / vouch for anyone who:
a) Doesn't train with me
b) Hasn't competed against at a reputable competition (IBJJF, AJP, AGF,...)

(By the way, the real photo is the first one with blue belt -- I have intentionally left the word "amateur" on the medal, which wouldn't be there if I had competed as purple, brown or black belt.)

I was just point out that ai simply lowers the bar needed for fake evidence. Cost and skill wise.
And clearly neither are required if your name is Moneyberg.

We need to start looking out for AI generated images. Here is one I created with 3 requests.
I uploaded a saved frame/screenshot of an instagram reel of my promotion posted by one of my training partners because it was the the most immediate thing I had access to when I was updating my profile... but I just now realised this may also be one of the better modern ways to prove promotions: by having original video. Even with full coverage of assembled photos of the interior, AI or a good compositor/video editor will have a harder time reproducing a non-static camera shooting video within 3D space of a gym with people moving, posing... It'd be something to compare to, other photos of the gym from other members posting images to their social media accounts. (This would still be exhausting to research, however.) Short video clips to be uploaded for verification may be a (temporary) stave against AI fakery.

In the end, the truth will be found on the mats themselves.

Imagine opening a gym with a fake black belt and getting new purple and brown students. They would be exposed really fast. I wouldn't worry very much. Only people who want to brag socially would do it. Who cares about them? No?
