Hey folks, I'm just posting this here because I don't have enough people in the real world that can fully appreciate this.
I just came back from a 3 day camp in Byron Bay, Australia where I got to learn from Marcelo Garcia, Tainan Dalpra, and Thalison Soares. As a no gi guy, I even went and got a gi off FB Marketplace for the gi sessions, as I hadn't worn one for around 15yrs.Hats off to all you wet pyjama wrestlers, the gi has a unique set of challenges. I'll have to start doing some learning in the gi moving forward (once my finger tips recover).
Im just really grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from these legends. Particularly, the opportunity to learn from the GOAT on his first trip to Aus was fantastic. Everything taught was functional and time tested from all coaches. More than anything the sessions helped open my eyes to new ways of playing the game. It was also great to connect with other Grapplers from all over Aus!
That's all. Just feeling grateful 🙏 (and really sore).

Make lots of good memories. Time is going to fly by anyway, so you’ll at least be able to look back on the key moments. That’s one of the main reasons I’m tracking my training and taking more photos now.

Absolutely. I've always been a big proponent of taking video for study - it's awesome to look back at old training videos from 15+ years ago and see how you've evolved. It also serves as a reminder of places I've trained at and people I've trained with over time.

Once you understand, that grips are transitions and not the control your fingers will thank you. The beauty of the kimono is with all the options for grips there is really no point of death gripping anything, you can just release and grab something else! #bluebeltmafia

That's a good tip! I put a lot of focus on hand fighting and grips in no-gi but it's a whole new set of tactical choices in the gi. It'll be fun to explore.

If you think its fun do it. If you don't think its fun don't do it. :)

I'm not sure if I think it's 'fun' per se. But, it's a challenge and I'd like to understand it better. Then I'll decide how fun it is 😁

That's a really cool experience. Someday i'd love to travel to a BJJ camp, just for the experience.

It's really something to see this migration of cauliflower-eared men converging on an industrial precinct each morning. Then to be on the mats and see what would be CENTURIES of experience around you. And just to be amongst this group who are all so engrossed and enjoying what we're all doing is absolutely worth it.
