First day on the mats just shy of 47th birthday. No school sports background (smoked cigarettes and played in the band), no martial arts background. Great instructors and training partners on the first try. Despite a break for heart surgery, another for shoulder reconstruction (both of those genetic flaws, not training damage) and then 11 months away during Covid lockdown, I'm rolling, learning, teaching teens at age 59. Planning to live plenty of years as a legit blackbelt
