Bio
Elitist culture refers to an environment or mindset that promotes exclusivity, superiority, and a sense of entitlement among a select group of individuals. In the context of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) or any martial art, an elitist culture can manifest in various ways:
Hierarchical Attitudes: Elitism often fosters a rigid hierarchy where individuals with higher belt ranks or accomplishments are valued more than others. This can lead to an environment where senior practitioners or instructors are given unquestioned authority and respect, while newcomers or lower-ranked individuals may be marginalized or overlooked.
Gatekeeping: Elitist cultures may employ gatekeeping practices that create barriers for entry or advancement within the community. This can include exclusive clubs or academies, strict adherence to specific training methods or affiliations, or a dismissive attitude towards practitioners from different backgrounds or styles.
Lack of Inclusivity: Elitism can create an unwelcoming atmosphere for individuals who do not meet certain criteria or standards set by the dominant group. This may include discrimination based on age, gender, physical ability, or socioeconomic background, effectively excluding talented individuals who do not fit the prescribed mold.
Obsession with Rank and Accomplishments: Elitist cultures often prioritize external markers of success, such as belt ranks, tournament victories, or affiliation with renowned instructors or academies. The focus on these achievements can overshadow the personal growth, enjoyment, and overall development that martial arts should offer to practitioners of all levels.
In short I’m sorry you feel that way Johan Nyh

"good"
I noticed 9 out of your 23 verifications are for disputed profiles, where they basically lack any kind of evidence (or have a promoting instructor lacking any kind of evidence). I hope you can clearify if you have personal knowledge or have found (links?) outside evidence which makes you confident in your verifying? I personally believe we have a shared responsibility to be restrictive in our endorsements, if Beltchecker is to reach a level of legitimacy where it can become a real alternative to IBJJF.

"Time to reverse my vote to a verification, as the promoting instructor (also verified by me) has now confirmed the promotion!"
"Verified by training partners"
