Relayed statement from promoting instructor Rodrigo Antunes: "Regarding Professor Ryan Merck: I met Ryan over a decade ago at Hayastan HQ. He traveled several times per year across the country to train with us and continues his Jiu-Jitsu development with instructors on the East Coast. I have personally visited him two to three times per year over several years. He is an excellent grappler and an even stronger instructor, with deep command of all aspects of grappling. His students consistent

"Confirmed BB promotion by Rodrigo A, a widely recognized 1999 black belt under Mario Sperry. This was an uphill verification process, with confusion on the distinctions between grappling arts, but have now been sorted out through direct contact (usually, I'm strict on expecting members to provide all evidence themselves). His students consistently podium at IBJJF Grand Slam events. After many years of training together and direct evaluation, I promoted Ryan to Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I am proud of that""
