Started training BJJ in 2021 in Cavalier, ND with a club. First year or so there was no promotions done because the purple belt and blue belt who taught (who themselves had been promoted from a black belt in Winnipeg, MB who moved to California a few years prior) were not comfortable promoting. A little over a year after I started, the blue belt worked at getting afflicted with the closest gym Stateside (Progressive Martial Arts in Grand Forks, ND. Ken Greer is the black belt there). Since then the Black belt promoted the blue belt to purple, has visited us a few times and we try and make it down to that gym once a month at least. When the purple belts want to promote belts they ask the black belt to keep an eye out for the individual getting promoted. For stripes the Black belts trusts them to give them out accordingly. I will be moving to Texas shortly and will look to continue my BJJ journey there.
