Bio
I am a We Defy Foundation Mentor and Ambassador. I coordinate at least two fund raising events each year for; Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I am a retired Zone Sergeant, New York State Police, with 26 years of service. I am a retired Chief Warrant Officer Four, 890A Senior Ammunition Technician, US Army Reserve, with over 30 years of service. I earned my Black Belt in WTF Tae Kwon Do in 1995. During my police career, I stayed proficient in the ever evolving Defensive Tactics. I successfully completed Modern Army Combatives Program levels 1 and 2 (2011 and 2013). One of my NYSP Field Training Officers and lifetime friends, Robert Hugus, retired in 2018 and opened his gym, Robert Hugus BJJ, in Plattsburgh, NY. Rob has trained under Julio "Foca" Fernandez-Nunez since 1995 and is currently a 6th degree black belt. My official BJJ journey started with Rob and continues under John Bruss at Rocket City Revolution BJJ in Madison, AL. John has been training under Julio "Foca" Fernandez-Nunez since 2004 and is currently a 3rd degree black belt. Julio "Foca" Fernandez-Nunez is currently a 7th degree red/black belt and owner of Vermont BJJ in Williston. He is also a co-founder of BJJ Revolution Team.

"Seven-year progression and Rocket City Revolution BJJ’s September 27, 2025 announcement congratulating unnamed new black belts. That and with the photos here, it's enough for me. BJJ Revolution Team’s listing of John Bruss as third-degree, black belt since 2013, suggests he held at least second-degree rank by the promotion, sufficient to award black belts. Legit!"
