What is this?
Beltchecker.com is a online database of practitioners of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that also allows for the community to validate belt ranks through community voting.
What does it cost?
Beltchecker.com will forever be free to use.
How does it work?
- Verification requires: Full belt promotion history, photo verification, name verification and enough votes from the community to confirm your profile being trustworthy
- The amount of vote points needed for verification depends on your belt rank
- Only verified profiles can vote
- The higher the verified profile's belt rank, the more points their vote is worth
- Changes made to your promotion history will require all of your received votes to be reconfirmed
What can I use it for?
You may chose to use this site as you like. It could be a sort of who-is-who database of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners, a social media platform, a place to manage the members of you academy, a way to verify/dispute belt ranks/instructors/competitors or just plain and simple entertainment.
Why would I need to verify my belt rank?
You don't! But through our community verification, you can certify that your skills and credentials are legitimate. This could be practical if you're competing, teaching or in any way can benefit from proving that you are who you claim you are.
Why is it beneficial to have a public record of my promotion history that can be verified or refuted?
Having your promotion history be public allows it to be checked by other members of the community. Having community members verify or refute the documented information based on their own criteria allows the community to determine the standard to which documentation will be held. This information being public helps ensure that it's accurate so a certain degree of trust can be established.
Does this mean I don't need IBJJF certification?
IBJJF is a private company that require rank certification for people to compete in their events. Unless you plan to compete in IBJJF events, you do not need to certify your rank with them. Certification through Beltchecker does not give you access to compete in IBJJF events.
Who is behind this?
The Beltchecker network is built and run by a group of martial arts enthusiasts from around the world with no common connection to any one style or affiliation. For more information on the people involved, please see the team page
Is this run by BJJ Globetrotters?
No, while some of the developers and many of the initial beta testers are connected to BJJ Globetrotters, this project is completely independent from any organization. No administrators, moderators or site owners have more voting/verification power than any other user on the site.
