BJJ is a "martial art", but also falls under other categories like "grappling", "submission grappling" and there's enough of it in MMA to qualify as "fighting" in its own right.

So what are you - a grappler, a fighter, a martial artist? An accountant by day, ninja by night?

Personally I loath the term "martial artist" because it just conjurers up mental images of the George Dillman / Frank Dux / Steven Seagal types who are going to do no-touch KO's or send you flying across the room with a street fighter ball of chi. But plenty of people I respect identify that way. I tend to go with "submission wrestler", it's the most self-explanatory term that lay people might actually understand and avoid the "oh, is that like karate?" follow up.

I prefer grappler since I teach a lot of NoGi and also coach wrestling.

Jujitiero also sounds pretty cool

I like to call myself a parital artist. This is a very rewarding and enjoyable hobby for me but I try not to take myself too seriously or think I'm hot shit just because I like to roll around with friends under various rulesets.

To others, "I do Jiu-Jitsu" so as not to sound like I take myself seriously, cause I don't. Inside it's martial artist, cause Frank Dux aside, it's been my principle passion since I started doing Kung-fu at 11. It has always been more than just an athletic activity to me.

I have already ages ago arrived to the shocking conclusion that people who don't train don't give a flying fuck about "jiujitsu" or the intricacies of different grappling styles. To them, I just tell I have "wrestling practice" or "wrestling competition" when I once again can't attend a social event. (I can't wrestle for shit, so to real wrestlers I tell what I'm actually doing. :D)

Personally I've been an admirer of ALL martial arts since a kid, and I like the idea of expressing oneself through martial arts, whatever the choice of the art is. (Obvs BJJ is the best tho, d'uh!) Thus, a recreational martial artist (rather than, say, a fighter).

I also tried to come up with a joke answer but couldn't think of anything to rival the best ones here already!
