Guys, I understand that SJJIF is a non profit BJJ competition org. And IBJJF is a profit BJJ competition org.
By looking at their websites:

http://www.sjjif.com and http://www.ibjjf.com

It’s obvious that ibjjf is bigger and have more competitions available.
I’ve only competed at two IBJJF tournaments, both was a nice experience that I will do again. I also would like to check out a SJJIF tournament soon.

What is your experience with the difference between the two? I’m sure it’s pros and cons with both.

I will most likely go to the World Police and Firefighter games in Rotterdam next year. And that is sanctioned by SJJIF.

All i know about the SJJIF is that when i got my brown belt and i was registering with the IBJJF i decided to also register with the SJJIF. I paid 5 extra dollars for a physical card from the SJJIF that i never received. They supposedly sent it to me twice though.

I have competed in a number of their tournaments and the bigger ones get a solid tournout especially the California ones including the Worlds.. I actually much prefer them to the IBJJF they value the competitors expecially the Black Belts

Do they utilize the same rule set?

Anyone going to the SJJIF Worlds? I'm very interested in this organization as they are trying to be the governing body for Olympic qualification. Which would be awesome as it would mean the existing organizations could exist outside of that. So when the Olympics committee accepts BJJ but dramatically changes the rules then they could apply only to this organization. But it would also mean we all, as a group, would need to support the SJJIF more.

I am trying to arrange to go... I LOVE the NABJJF / SJJIF they are a great organization and treat people with respect.. They are big on the West Coast and SE Asia. I have done their Worlds 2 times and they get a good turnout.

They run a solid tournament and are great people this coming from someone who dislikes the IBJJF. I know it's not as big as the IBJJF yet but a believe they may eclipse them in the future

That's good to know. I am going to see if we can take a crew but I have to get Fernando Yamasaki to get the academy registered first.

I have always felt with the IBJJF that we were an inconvenience and that they felt the were doing us a favor allowing us to compete . The SJJIF treats you as if you are doing them a solid by competing.

That is kind of the best way i know how to phrase it https://sjjif.com/

I belong to both. SJJIF seems to be much easier to deal with. IBJJF always messes reregistering up.

Anyone have an opinion on the way SJJIF tournaments are run? From my experience, I prefer IBJJF to other tournaments because their scheduling system is accurate.

Pretty much the same way with they give you a time and are within 5-10 minutes generally..

As an outsider I have always felt they kind of copied what the IBJJF does well and tried to fix what they don't do well

Just saw this one WABJJ https://associacao-brasil[...]bnode.com/ Anyone here a member/affiliated to WABJJ? President: Master Anderson Forgassa de Souza, 8th degree Coral belt [edit: added president's name]
Looks like McDojo to me. Especially the copy of the logo of International Judo Federation.
And when you start to disarm guns with a Gi on. It’s a sure sign of McDojo.

Says Jiu Jitsu "Tradicional" which I would guess is Japanese Jiu Jitsu and not BJJ per se

I have competed and reffed for SJJIF for "Dumau" competitions in Singapore. The rules are almost the same, with some key differences.

From what I remember:
1. No need to count 3 seconds when sweeping, you will get points immediately.
EDIT: I checked this is wrong, need 3 second count. Sorry.

2. back mount gives you points (mount position and the bottom guy is facing the floor)

3. you get awarded with reversals
EDIT: Immediate reversal from takedown / guard pass attempt by opponent, then hold position for 3 seconds

These are the main difference that I remember, They may have changed the rules so I need to review it again.

So if you sweep someone, they land on their butt and get right back up on top, you still get the points for it?

I have only competed in their US events but at least in the US you have to hold for 3 seconds

I went to the SJJIF website and I saw that I was wrong, there is a 3 second count for sweeps. Also, reversals only awarded points during the action of takedown or guard pass, reversed position immediately and hold position for 3 seconds. Sorry for this. I will update my earlier post to prevent confusion.

As for the back mount i believe it is still correct when I checked the rulebook.

also, they don't have advantage points, SJJIF have penalty points instead.

If anyone is interested the site is here:

Never heard of the SJJF before. Are they an actual non-profit org or they just a company that runs tournaments like the IBJJF? I poked around the website a little but it was unclear
