Silly Question Re: Early Belts

Hi All,
This may be a silly question but I have been training BJJ for over 21 years now and have no idea of the dates that I got my blue and purple belts to finish completing my profile, so what do you recommend that I do?
I mean I am sure I could track down my purple belt certificate somewhere (which I got from Bruno Panno of Gracie Sydney/Humaita, just like my brown belt), but back when I got my blue belt around 2000 I think, there were no certificates etc and to be honest I actually would have to find an old passport as I got it at Academia Sul Jiu Jitsu, in the South of Brazil from Mario Sperry and Walter Mattos.
I don't want to lie and just say some random date and even for my white belt, I believe it was around October 98, but have no idea what day or exact date... I mean it's like over 20 years ago! Anyway I just ask out of respect, and I am unaware of the etiquette with this site and the best practice. Thank you in advance and I think it is such a great concept!

The year and month are the most important ones. However if its 20 years ago and you are a month or two off it doesn't matter. :)

I had to search through my schools Facebook page to find exactly when I was promoted to purple and blue, so it’s probably a lot more common than you think. Although I already forgot half of what I did yesterday so there’s that.

For sure mate! Unfortunately I don’t think we had any social media in 2000 when I got my blue belt and I wasn’t privileged to be an early adopter in 2005 or so either for my purple belt. :-)

Yeah. My advice is to just give it your best guess and maybe include that in the comments. You have a photo of one of the best Jiu Jitsu athletes in the world putting a black belt on you, nothing more I need to see. That’s just my opinion though.

I'd be breaking it up into believable chunks to be honest, a few years at each belt up to Black. The black belt and degrees are what your needing to be verified not the colour belts, that's where is be focusing my efforts as far as documentation goes.

I'd be breaking it up into believable chunks to be honest, a few years at each belt up to Black. The black belt and degrees are what your needing to be verified not the colour belts, that's where is be focusing my efforts as far as documentation goes. My 2 cents mate.
Thanks! I just went with guestimates! Pretty sure blue was right to within a month or two, purple I was a little hazier on even though it was more recent! That one should hopefully be within a few months! Just wanted to complete my profile.

I just put loose guesses for my lower belts day and month.
I started training BJJ over 28 years ago.
Things were different before the age of most people having personal computers, and there was no Facebook and no Youtube.

Good we see some Sydney practitioners on here. Recognised the name from the d Igor MMA Facebook group.
Personally I don’t think the dates matter for blue or purple when you’re at your level. I’d put down 31st Dec or similar so it’s clear it’s not a random date.
