I still feel uneasy about the number of folks that don't know me that voted for me, but I've decided that's their prerogative. I'm just hoping more folks from around here join up soon so the majority of my votes can be people I've at least met IRL.

Peoples votes only matter on this site to get your profile verified. Does nothing in terms of your legitimacy. That is between you and your instructor, who actually promoted you and legitimized your rank formally. If I did not get verified on here what would it really change? Nothing at all. I know plenty of legit guys who won't register here and do not care about it.

Yes I find that it is just a matter of whether you care or not. It's relatively easy to get verified if you care about putting up the relevant details. Anyway, times are changing and I see the potential of this site. Hopefully more people see it too in time.

I'm still getting DMs from complete strangers asking for me to check/verify them (as if it matters in the big picture) and "getting verified" here, doesn't actually do much outside of the internet world, but I'm, guessing the reason why there is the many requests is probably most BJJers are OCD in wanting to get all the boxes ticked and requirements met - no doubt as a by product of martial arts training - in order to feel "complete" and less anxious.

Carry on with your lockdown life and within a couple of weeks, if the evidence you provide can be authenticated (certification, photos, friend's recommendations, etc.) it will happen magically!

In my opinion it is super easy to get verified, if you know some members here personally (or at least you post enough evidence of your promotion history).

After completing my profile, I just jumped on the forums and started b.s.'ing with people. Didn't take long to get verified and I'm a jiu jitsu nobody, although I like to think a well-documented profile had a big part to play in that also.

If they want to be recognized, they have to do some due diligence and interact with the community here somewhat.

Of course, your mileage may vary depending on how much of a luminary you are in the field. I'm sure if Gordon Ryan created a profile here, he'd be verified within the hour after creation, without having to post a single thing on the forums.

At the end of the day, all this is just for fun... what BJJ does for you and how legitimate it is is a personal journey I find.

I haven’t been verified through yet and I am fine with that. I would rather the seal team 6 type community verification process than some kind of honor system. Forget that!
