I think it's kicked in and maybe a little too severely. I recommended a black belt friend of mine to come join this site as he's looking into moving to Europe and it's been three weeks and crickets. I'm the only one that's voted for him who's a black belt. When I joined it took less than a week to get verified. Has there been a decline in newly verified black belts?

There definetely is less traffic due to People not training and the verification curve has gotten more flat.

It took you a week to get verified while for others it took 1-2 hours or less so I dont think its the mindset of the people rather then just less activity

“Verification is too hard!” “Now it’s too easy” “Now it’s too hard again!” :D
There was an easy phase?

Are new registrations declining? Verification rate is probably the best metric to measure this, no?

I would think when people are training less, they might be more inclined to surf forums no? Certainly my pattern.

Maybe for some but I think for the average hobbyist that when they are not training they are not thinking about bjj as intensely. That is atleast the case for a few guys I know.

It's all relative, as I'm sure some people will complain they have to wait a week or two to get verified. If you compare with the beginning where it could easily take a month or even two, there was a period where it probably averaged at less than a week for well-documented profiles with little/no network on the site and less than a day for those with. I would rate that as a very very easy phase.

Yeah usage and new registrations is definitely slower now. No surprise when so few people are training and even fewer competing. I think that the natural human urge for comparison and verification is much less intense if there is little/no competition in their environment.

It's actually great, because it has given us a much welcomed breather to build the foundation of the site stronger, more secure and with much more functionality. If the initial surge of members had continued, we would have been super busy with customer support and putting out little fires all the time :)

Did he make an into, post?
Nope. Interesting though, I did and it probably helped.

In all fairness you’ve only voted for 9 people, so you’re contributing to what you perceive as a current issue.

It would probably help if he posted an introduction post, that way people can see that he is new and make their decision on whether to vote or not. There are still people who do regularly vote on new profiles.
Personally I changed my voting criteria after the Italian saga. I now only vote for people that i know or have trained with or people that I have interacted with on here and am confident in their ability.

I know I know ... kind of why I made this thread. After the Italian soap opera, I followed the sort of consensus to vote for only those you know, so kind of stopped voting. Now I'm thinking that that train of thought is not conducive to increased registrations ... all this based of course on my sample set of 1 :)

Everyone makes mistakes.

And on this site, a vote given may always be withdrawn, or even turned into a dispute vote, immediately

So, voting in good faith, on good faith evidence, may always be reversed, and easily so,

if it is discovered that someone presented evidence that was false.

And if someone presents false evidence,

It will be the presenter of false evidence that is subject of criticism,

So long as any voting official or site moderator acts accordingly when the evidence is discovered to be false.

No one here is promoting anybody by voting for their rank;

It is a good faith affirmation that may be retracted immediately or even turned into a formal call out dispute

if it is discovered that the counter party has acted in bad faith, or presented false evidence.
