Bullshido was great. I completely forgot about the adcc forum. I don't remember subfighter. Was that tied to the newsletter?

Subfighter was one of the first bjj technique sites, no idea about a newsletter.

Lockflow was a great forum too. Kind of sambo / catch oriented

If I remember correctly, there was a subfighter newsletter around the same time as there was a full contact fighter newsletter. But I may be wrong.

Great entertainment, yes. But I think Bullshido shares some DNA with this sight too, no? We also want to ensure there is truth in martial arts and people are not representing themselves incorrectly.

I was on all the old boards in the 90's. Any other old posters around?
BJJ.org and NHBGear here. I still have one of the old NHBGear tshirts somewhere :)

I was on most forums from 2002 onwards at some point (always with my slideyfoot username), so I also lurked on NHBGear. One of the most exciting days of my life was finally getting to meet/roll with Chrissy, Val and Brian when I made it out to Virginia a few years back. This four part documentary stuffed with NHBGear regulars is still my favourite BJJ documentary ever (I prefer it to Choke etc): https://www.youtube.com/w[...]=reelsnake

Bullshido was the big one for me, instrumental in getting me into BJJ in the first place. I started off on a small UK forum that I imagine most of you won't have heard of, Tung-Fu, back when I was still a kung fu guy in 2002. Then moved into Cyberkwoon, lurking on The Underground, Bullshido, Sherdog, plus a load of smaller ones like Jiu JItsu Forums, along with more UK-heavy like EFN (the sadly missed European Fight Network forums. I only ever lurked on SFUK, another of the big MMA/BJJ ones from the early 2000s). A bit of Martial Arts Planet too, but that was never very BJJ, especially compared to the others.

In The Guard, BJJ.org, Tim Mousel etc were before my time, though I heard about it due to reading/posting on NHBGear and The Underground in the early 2000s. Oldest ones I can remember, where there were contemporary responses to the UFC etc in the early 90s, was what is now rec.martial.arts, I think? Ported off some old newsgroup from the early days of the internet as a global thing, IIRC.

E.g., amazing historical treasure troves of threads like this 1994 thread about UFC 2:

Is that how you mark time, by belt level?

Mousel's, but that was a long time ago. Haven't heard the forums name mentioned in ages :)
Yeah: as obsessed as I am about BJJ and especially online BJJ history, I don't hear that one come up very often. Was it less active than places like In The Guard, a smaller membership or something like that? Also, did it become this, or was that a new thing Mousel set up: https://www.defend.net/de[...]uxeforums/

Looks like it isn't active anymore, which is a shame, but still cool that it exists as an archive of old posts. :)

I think you were on places like Cyberkwoon and Martial Arts Planet the same time as me too (2002), I seem to remember posts from you on those? :D

Yep! There are soooo many NHBGear people in the doc, plus it's a really cool insight into what BJJ was like in the US in the early 2000s.

There are three more parts, in case you had any trouble finding them:

Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/w[...]gukC_XOHi4

Part 3: https://www.youtube.com/w[...]OgF8RV4NEk

Part 4: https://www.youtube.com/w[...]ewImTDVtI0

I generally watch them all once every year or two. So yeah, big fan of that doc. :D
