After luta livre, judo, kenpo and mma I propose introducing Sandwich Making Checker.

There, the community can evalute ones sandwich making skills.

Crucial in these times of pestilence.

Bread, toasted yea or nay?
Rye or wholewheat?
Pickles?
Mayo or mustard?
Pastrami or salami?

Graugart, get on it!

Ooo, I'm so down for this! Sandwiches are awesome, I have a big toastie almost every day. I like weird combinations, so stuff like stilton, cheddar, brie, chicken, raspberry jam and chilli sauce. Delicious! :D

The world definitely needs a better standardized sandwich maker rank system.

I’ve been fed a somewhat dry & tastleless sandwich by a proclaimed Sandwich Grand Master... these people need to be exposed!

On it!!
Don't you guys eat more open face sandwiches in your neck of the woods. Lol I don't really consider them sandwiches as much as I would call them Danish Sushi Lol

Smørrebrød!

Should there be a different Checker for each sandwich style, or can they be unified under one system, that is the big question here...

I'm of the school of thought, that a sandwich should also include condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup or sambal) and pickles (red onions, cabbage, fermented whatnot).

Those are essential to the sandwich experience.

Without those, you MIGHT be eating a slice of bread with cheese, but you're NOT eating a sandwich.

I don't know Daniel when I lived in Spain they made some pretty good sandwiches that had none of those condiments in them. They even had a calamari sandwich that could soak up liquor like nobodies business.
They were especially delicious at 5 or 6am walking out of the nightclubs and pubs. Lol

I love CIen Montaditos. Not exactly classy, I guess, but so much range and great value for money! :D

The one in Cadiz is especially good, right in front of the cathedral. Meaning you have an awesome view to look at while you eat your sandwiches.

Calamari sandwiches, soaked in olive oil, bit of garlic, toasted bread...

Okay, I yield. Also a sandwich.

“Open face sandwich” is a term invented for tourists who don’t understand that it’s just bread with stuff on top. The Danish word “smørrebrød” just means bread with something put on it.

Also, when done right, it’s epic.

I’m not sure it would be accepted on sandwichmakerchecker.com though, might be too different a style??

Damn tourists! Lol

Danish Sushi sounds good to me. Maybe sailors went to Japan and showed them how to do it. The Portuguese did that and now there is Tempura in Japan.

A proper sandwich has proper full butter! And why would you put another piece of bread on top of that?

Cos it would be a pizza otherwise? :)

To my dutch ears, smørrebrød translates as "smeerbrood". Literally, bread you put some spread on.

But to your point.

I am a big fan of knäckebrød, especially topped with humus, or cream cheese, or almond butter

However, is that a sandwich, per se?

I feel the pure water might get clouded if we go down that road. Yet, let the community decide its legitness.

Ha - maybe, although I can remember a number of people seemed almost angry with my quark, jam, ham, cheddar and brie toastie a while back. HamJam is the way. :P

Another issue. Where do we stand on pita? Example. My sabich sandwich (roasted eggplant, boiled egg, tahini, parsley) https://www.instagram.com[...]04ob7jwf7k
I'm fine with it as long as it's properly Turkish and therefore pide instead. None of the thin flaky stuff, thick and squishy like pide should be, ideally covered with a load of spicy meat and cheese so it essentially becomes pizza (though of course lahmacun would be a better fit for Turkish pizza). ;)

Also, I miss Babaji Pide Salonu, that was my favourite place to eat in London. The people behind it have opened up somewhere else, but it's not as good. Mainly because it doesn't have as much pide.

In Ireland we just cut a potato in half, spread on some of the rainwater you got for your last Christmas present, and put the two halves back together again. Good eatin'.

Ha ha ha - yeah, I had a lot of comments like that when I originally put that up. ;)

And yeah, that's typical sandwich action for me. This is what I just shoved in my face: cinnamon and raisin bagels, stuffed with brie, cheddar, chilli salad dressing, sweet chilli and some random hot sauce thing I can't even remember the name of, plus some chicken, well toasted. :D
